Re: Tom Cruise in charge of the BIRTH
Ok, I just read what I could of it without getting completely annoyed- this girl is so obviously brainwashed. IMO there are many weak minded women who act like a man is their world- Katie seems to be one of them- It sounds like she is completely in la-la land over the fact that Tom Cruise picked her- she is just sounding like a very brainwashed girl that will do anything to make her "dream" remain a reality. Is this healthy- NO WAY- is this the case- it seems to be.

heres what we do...we find a 2x4 and beat tom soundly about the head and body, all the while telling him to keep quiet....how long before he screams "show me the money." any bets?

Just wait until little Katie is in labor and Tom tells her to keep quiet. I would love to hear that she punched his lights out!

Re: Tom Cruise in charge of the BIRTH
Posted by dpli I could see how you would want to keep the TV or stereo off or low, but complete silence would be rough.
Also- how would that work if you are having your second or third kid? Are you really going to be able to keep a 2 year old silent for a week? Or do you exile the kid to maintain the silence?
Newborns really only respond to LOUD noises, so complete silence is not neccessary. Plus, I don't see how silence is supposed to help the transition, when babies aren't in complete silence in the womb. They can hear the noises of the outside world, which is why they're already familiar with their mother's voices. 7 days of silence afterwards makes zero sense I can't believe I used to like Tom Cruise.

Re: Tom Cruise in charge of the BIRTH
Ok, I'm sure to get flack for this one.. I agree he's a complete A** and has no business telling anyone -including his wife/gf - to give birth...but
the silence thing afterwards...PBS had that series on brain development. For premies there was a developmental psychologist (Heidelise Als) working with neurobiologists that did studies on premies - since in addition to other issues - there is a high incidence of ADD in premature births.
What they do is recreate the womb since the baby's brain isn't ready to start making those brain connections. A heartbeat and muffled sounds are a big part of it. http://www.pbs.org/wnet/brain/outreach/series_desc.html
Scientology aside - there are valid reasons for quiet time in particular cases. After they pass their due date, well - crank the stereo...better your kid gets used to falling asleep when there is noise.
