2005: The Year In Review

Every year, we see major advances in the world, such as religion and politics; things that will have an impact on our future.

Let's reflect back -- what do you see as the most significant events of 2005, and what impact will it play in 2006?

IMO-The wrath of mother nature's fury! We had so many natural disasters this year and it's scary to me. The way Katrina relief efforts were handled was a great lesson to us all and to the government.

Hurricane Katrina. Its devastation, the political fall out, the effect on gas prices, etc are much more far reaching than 2005.

When we saw pictures of the tsunami, there was no expectation that the government would help them. Here in the US, we expect that our government will come through swiftly to help those in need. For whatever reason you want to point to, those people were let down.

Gas prices - I think now that the oil companies realize they can push gas prices up, they won't be so quick to lower them -unless its to avoid the penatlities for the profits they make. I hope it will make people push the demand for more efficient means of energy.

Another recent issue was the whole "evesdropping" dilema. I feel that will impact our country in the long run.

I believe that the Terry Shiavo case will come into play regarding right to die and who makes that decision and when.

yeah the loss of Jennings was a major blow to TV journalism. With the loss of him and the retirement of Dan Rather and Tom Brokaw, TV journalism is experiencing a major evolution

Another scary & new war on terrorism. The terrorist acts in Spain & Europe. The U.S in no longer the main target and it's a world war against it. We are all targets Chat Icon

MJ what a phsyco!

Sorry Don..but I have a long list of the issues I feel have affected me & us as a whole.

Another major issue IMO-would be "outsourcing"(sp). American companies moving their customer service depts. to other parts of the world like India & Asia. To pay less in wages. Chat Icon

So many natural disasters this year- I almost feel like the gov't/media are too obsessed with terrorism but there are so many more terrible things that can happen, and often we can't predict them.
