And the pizza!
The pizza is GREAT - however, after living in jersey for 9 years - i have grown to like their pizza even better. please don't flame me for this!

Re: Why do you choose to live on Long Island?
I thought of another plus - proximity to some of the greatest universities in the country. Between the LI schools as well as the NYC schools - there are a lot of educational opportunities that you can't get in other places.

DH isn't ready to go yet.
I would leave LI in a heartbeat. Traffic, prices, taxes, and people are kind of rude (c'mon - you have to admit you are surprised by the friendly smiles when you travel!)

Seriously! I went to visit a friend in VA and asked where the nearest diner was for breakfast and she laughed at me. She said when she comes home to visit her family (upstate) the first thing they do is breakfast at the diner!

Re: Why do you choose to live on Long Island?
I know this is a LI thread, and I grew up on LI, hanging out on a Fri/Sat night at the Highlite Diner in the wee hours of the morning...
But that's what I love about NJ. The diners. NJ actually has the most diners than anywhere else. It's actually considered the Diner capital of the world! (just a little bit of triva for ya!)

Two plugs for jersey on this thread!
It's always so funny to me that LI and NJ hate one another because they are the same in a lot of ways - Pizza, diners, beaches, traffic!!!

Re: Why do you choose to live on Long Island?
Pretty simple for us. My immediate family is here, and they will be helping us out when it comes time for babies. Dh's family is in Staten Island and upstate, so they're not that far.

Re: Why do you choose to live on Long Island?
i moved off of LI for my job and i plan to stay here in CT.
li does have many things to offer like beaches, vineyards, shopping and of course #1, my family and friends. however dealing with the traffic, house taxes and some of the values has definitely turned me off after experiencing life in a different state

Re: Why do you choose to live on Long Island?
I will stay here as long as my family is here. I also love that it's close to the city and there's so much variety and culture.
If my family were to move, I would definitely want to move also, and I never thought I could even consider leaving LI or NY. But hearing others say what a difference moving out of NY has made for them (better quality of life) has made me re-think. DH is a different story, he says no matter what, he will not leave NY.

Re: Why do you choose to live on Long Island?
Well, our families have been here for like a hundred years, so there's that. Beaches no matter where you go. Food, culture, music, EVERYTHING is here!

Re: Why do you choose to live on Long Island?
My parents are here. My friends are here (although a few have moved already) and deep down I am too much of a wuss to move away from the only home I have ever known
I think if my parents and friends moved off LI, I would want to move too.

My DH didn't want to leave his job, and we couldn't afford Manhattan, Brooklyn, or Queens, didn't know Westchester or NJ enough.
