OMG, couldn't believe my ears...
I just heard from my aunt that a very close friend of their family had a very difficult delivery...wound up w/ a C-Section and the Dr's CUT the baby's shoulder!!! He needed stitches! The Mom is now in ICU (for some serious complications). Have you ever heard of such a thing???? I hope she sues those doctors!!!!!!!!!! The poor baby.

Re: OMG, couldn't believe my ears...
This is just another example on how absolutely lucky most of us are to have had relatively normal experiences with childbirth. We don't realize how often things like this are happening -- and even worse.
My good friend's SIL was due March 23, today actually and went into labor on the 8th after being seen twice in her DR's office the week before for bleeding. They did a sono/fetal heartbeat and had her deliver the baby and it was born stillborn. Apparently something happened to the placenta the week before and that's what the bleeding was about and it harmed the baby, yet somehow even though she was in the DRs office that week they didn't catch it. They knew about it b efore she delivered but didn't tell her until after she delivered --- could you just imagine??
Both are horrible stories I don't wish upon any mother -- but it also causes us to stop back and really be thankful for what we have.

Re: OMG, couldn't believe my ears...
I hate to say this but it is very common for this type of mishap, it depends ont he position of the baby and if the baby has to be delivered they doc may have no choice, he can't wait for the baby to switch positions. These things happend lots, justlike some babies have their shoulders, elbows, leg joints pulled out of socket from the way they are pulled out! I ave heard of one time when a doc poked a baby in the eye and the baby had a latex allergy and the baby had a very bad eye infection, docs are human too, there are some things out of their control.

Unfortuntely, this is why so many OBs are getting out of the practice. They can't afford the malpractice insurance. Many of them are only doing GYN now. I think I read that in Nevada, there are NO OBs left. Like everybody said, its really scary to think of all the bad things that can happen. But sadly, they do sometimes. We do really have to be thankful when we have a problem-free delivery.

Re: OMG, couldn't believe my ears...
I know someone who had a c-section and the doctor cut the baby's face! He tried to tell the mother that it was because of the baby's fingernails! Needless to say, there was a huge lawsuit against that doctor.
Horrible....

Re: OMG, couldn't believe my ears...
And everytime I am told that a c/s is NO big deal at all I laugh...it is MAJOR surgery with risks..necessary risks sometimes, but all too often those risks are tossed aside very easily by today's doctors.
I pray that the baby is okay and that mom and baby are home soon

When my nephew was born, the doctor insisted he be born naturally (mind you, he was a ten pound baby). He broke his collarbone coming out

Sharon, poor baby... it's odd how it happens to some and not others... I was born at 10.5 lbs

I know that the stirrup in the hospital broke when my cousin was pushing during labor and the baby dislocated her arm.
