I still like Man in the Moon with Reese Witherspoon when she was very young....such a sweet movie.
My friends and I in 8th grade used to have "pow wows" ( dont really know why we called them that) , and have a girls movie night like every friday. We still to this day ONLY remember Man in the Moon from those days. We all cried our eyes out back then and I do again every time I see it now!

I'll never forget the conversation I had when trying to rent this at Blockbuster.
cashier: "OK, L.I.E is due back on..... hmmm do you know what this movie is about?"
me: Yes
cashier: And you still want to rent it?
me: Yes
cashier: Are you sure?
me: Yes
Cashier: *looks both way to make sure nobody else is around and whispers* You know it's about a pedophile, right?
me: Yes
Cashier: OK, then.. its due back on Tuesday...

some good german films, so long as you dont mind subtitles:
-run lola run -the princess and the warrior (same director from run lola run -the edukators -goodbye lenin (same director as edukators; both interesting movies, but they have a political undertone) -gegen die Wand (not sure if this one is a sub titled movie, yet, i saw it in germany) - any film by Fassbinder, especially if you are into German politics.

Cinema Paradiso (not indie, but foreign)
LOOOOOVE that movie!! Also, The Wedding Banquet (another foreign film)-VERY funny, about a gay Chinese american whose whole family still lives in China. They always call to ask if he's met a nice girl, so he finally tells them, yes- and that they will be married. The family immediately decides to make the trip to America to meet the (not-existant)bride. He talks a girl in his building into pretending to marry him while his family is in town, and hilarity and drama follow......

This was a great movie!
Simon Pegg and Nick Frost have another film coming out later this year called "Hot Fuzz" its a working title film and should be fantastic. If you like Shaun, you should watch the TV series "Spaced"
If you thought "Happiness" was grim, you should see "Storytelling" my friends band did the soundtrack...I haven't the heart to tell him how horrid the film is (but how great the soundtrack is...)
