 I hope all goes well!! DH's baby sister was born a little over 2 lbs. She's a healthy, happy, normal 7 year old!!

with all the stuff they have out there these days i am sure she will be ok ! kryssy was a 4 pounds went down to 3 lbs 6 and discharged 2 weeks 3 days later at 4 lbs 1/2 oz! in my thoughts and prayers!

They do amazing things with babies in the NICU these days. The main thing they will focus on is her breathing and her sucking. They may give your cousin steroids to speed up the baby's lung development. Nyla will most likely be on the NICU for a few weeks while they monitor her breathing and sucking. She will probably be on IV for nutrition at first, and they will slowly transition her to the bottle. The main thing that they want to see before releasing a baby from the NICU is that she can breathe independently and can coordinate breathing, sucking and swallowing.
I was just with my friend on the NICU yesterday. She had her baby 5 1/2 weeks early, and the little guy is doing great! I think the hardest thing for the mother is not getting to take the baby home with her.

I know how scarey this is because I have been facing the possibility of early deliver fora few weeks now and my little one is still
weighing under 4 pounds (my due date is just a few days before your cousins on 7/29). Please know that I will send a TON of prayers (all the ones that I can muster up) for the safety of your cousin and her little one.
From all the research I have been doing lately, there is a 98% chance that when baby Nylah is born that she will be AOK! Granted she will spend a few days in NICU to watch her lungs and she might have a problem sucking...with modern medicine the chances are she will be just fine.
However, I know this does not ease how scary this is. Please let her know we are thinking of her.
OOh will they be giving her a steriod injection before she goes in for the c-section? Also, may I ask why they are going for a c-section instead of letting her delivery naturally?

Thank you! It means so much! I know that you're going through a tough time now also and I've been praying every day for you and your little one too!
She has to have a c-section because her water broke and they don't want to have a dry birth. Not sure about the steroid injection. She's been in the hospital since her water broke under observation.

Definitely keeping the little one in my thoughts and prayers!
Rich's nephew was born premature and everyone was very worried about him. He pulled through and to look at him today you'd never guess that we all worried so much - he's perfect in every way.
