Re: Anyone NOT getting an Epidural?
I didn't have one with my daughter.... used hypnobirthing and I'm so so glad that I did that it was a totally different experience than with my son, I was only in labor with her for 5 or 6 hrs ... I was in labor with him for 3 days and was soo exhausted that I got an epidural just so that I could rest enough to be able to push... I think my labor was so long with him because I was not letting my body relax and do it's job, I was too nervous and too scared. I will not get an epidural for my next child either.

I chose to go all natural and it was an amazing experience.

Re: Anyone NOT getting an Epidural?
I took hypnobirthing too. I had planned on going natural. I actually lasted pretty long without the epidural. I got to the hospital at 8am and had my son at 1:25. I only had the epidural in for like an hour. They didn't check me for a while so I didn't know how dilated I was. I might have been able to go without it if I knew I was almost ready to deliver. I wasn't able to relax because they told me to walk around for a couple of hours. I walked for about 5 minutes and then started bleeding so I walked back to the labor and delivery area. They had me in the exam room and didn't put me into a room for a long time. It was hard for me to get relaxed. I had back labor.

Re: Anyone NOT getting an Epidural?
Hell Yes! I'm not into pain,I can barely stand the cramps when I'm PMS'ing let alone labor. When I had my son I had all back labor for 2 days,I was extremely exhausted & needed the epi in the afternoon of day2 so that I could push at night. I had no side effects except that my bra would latch in the back in exactly the same spot I had the needle & that was a little sore for like 2 months later.

Re: Anyone NOT getting an Epidural?
I have a big threshold for pain, and will not get the epidural. Hey, women from previous generations did without it, why can't we?

Re: Anyone NOT getting an Epidural?
Absolutely, if I feel like I need one, you bet I'll be asking for one. At this rate, I'm not even sure of I'll have to have a repeat c/s, I'm hoping to go for a VBAC, but I can't be induced!

I feel the same, I would prefer not to have one but I'm not going for hero status either!

same here.
Same here. I gave birth in Ireland. I went to the hospital in the afternoon, they sent me home because I wasn't dialated. I went back in the evening, still not dialated. They had me walk for an hour. Came back 1cm, they broke my water and I had my epidural immediately. I tell you it was my best friend. I am nervouse about having a baby here because there the epi came asap.

Re: Anyone NOT getting an Epidural?
I have a high threshold for pain but had an epi for all 3 kids. Looking back, I wouldn't have changed a thing. I wanted to be relaxed and fresh for when the delivery came around and I had no side effects from the epi, I was walking around within 30-60 minutes after delivering and was able to use my legs during delivery.
Only advice I can offer and of the first time mothers is to go into labor with an open mind.

Re: Anyone NOT getting an Epidural?
I tried really hard to not have one with my first. I couldn't believe how much I couldn't take the pain of the contractions - I thought I had a really high threshold for pain, but I just couldn't take it. I tried to take a little something for pain to avoid the epi and they gave me something called STADOL which almost ruined my whole experience - it made me so high I thought I was going to lose my mind! When I finally got the epidural, I was able to relax and enjoy the experience, and you still feel mostly everything (not your legs) as far as pressure and sensations go when the baby is actually coming out. This time I will not try to avoid the epidural, but will get it when I need it.

Re: Anyone NOT getting an Epidural?
I plan on NOT getting any pain meds, for me the risks outway the benefits. I did some research on this and I am looking into the Bradley or Hypnobirthing methods.
