Babylon is a great town for commuters. The village is adorable.

Also Levittown is great -- parks everywhere and a lot of younger couples with families are moving in...the houses are relatively affordable and it's accessable to all major highways plus Wantagh/Hicksville train lines.

Re: need rec for places to live
I would start with the LIRR routes and time table and then work by process of elimination from there.

Merrick is very pretty, but a little expensive. You can buy cute (or enormous) homes close to the train station.

PS... The Bellmore-Merrick SD is one of the best districts in the nation! FYI for the future if/when you have kiddies.

I was going to say the same thing - Babylon has the express train to NYC.

I was going to say Rockville Centre as well. I hear about a lot of commuters living there. Good luck with your search!

Re: need rec for places to live
We live in Bethpage and I commute. It's about 50 minutes on the RR and you have the option of using the Bethpage train station or the Hicksville train station. Your parking permit will actually be valid in all Town of Oyster Bay lots.
We were also looking for a good commute and at first we looked in Bellmore, Merrick, Wantagh area but eventually found a home in Bethpage we loved. The schools are excellent and the prices of homes vary from different parts. I love that it's centrally located on LI..

RVC is great (I grew up there) and the commute is fairly short (less than 40 minutes), but it's pretty $$$.

Re: need rec for places to live
really ,it depends on how far you are willing to commute. Both DH and I work in the city, but we are looking further east in suffolk county- like the patchogue/medford area, because you can get more house for your money than you can in nassau or western suffolk. We decided having more house was more important to us than a shorter commute.
