Both my parents were born in Haiti. My mom has been in the US since she was 8 and my dad came in his late teens.
My dad was definitely stricter than my mom. By the time I was 8, I was doing laundry downstairs in our building. Before my dad got home from work, I had to have his place setting ready at the table. When he came home I had to fix his plate and bring it to him at the table when he was ready to eat.

My mom was born in Germany but was raised for most of her life in the United States. She came here I believe when she was 2.
