Moms of girls--thoughts on ear piercing?
How many of you have done it or are thinking about it with the girls as babies?
A friend whose daughter had her ears pierced at 4 mos. told me if you're going to do it, you must do it before 6 mos. before the baby realizes there's something in her ear to grab at and pull out.
Anyway, I think it's so cute, but am not sure whether or not to do it. I was about 2 or 3 years old when I had mine pierced.
So, what do you all think?

Re: Moms of girls--thoughts on ear piercing?
Although I'm not a mom of a girl....my girlfriend got her daughter's ears pierced. I think it's very cute. The doctor told her he would do it for 50 dollars. She went to a jewlery store and had it done cheaper.
When I was a baby, my mother didn't pierce my ears...I got mine done in 7th grade. I'm kind of upset she didn't get them done when I was little because the hole they put in one of my earlobes is a bit low...meaning I can't wear a heavy earring. I think they would have been more careful with a baby....

We got Gianna's ear's pierced at 4 months for the same reason that your friend said. I have had no problems with her touching them or with me changing them. As soon as the Dr. gave us the OK we had them done

I didnt pierce Emmas ears. If she wants to have it done when she is older all she has to do is ask.. IMO it's her body not mine. (I got mine done in 3rd grade)

I didn't have my ears pierced until 2nd grade when I made my communion. It was a special present for making my communion. My mom did that with my sister also -- so that's probably the tradition I'll carry on with Emily.

IMO I don't like seeing babies with their ears pierced, just doesn't look right to me. I had mine done in thrid grade and if i have a little girl I will wait until she is at least in third grade or so to have them done.

Re: Moms of girls--thoughts on ear piercing?
If Maddie wants it done when she's older, she can get it. But it's going to be when she can take care of them herself.
She was just playing with my earring not 2 minutes ago, saying "When I get old, I have earrings too."

Re: Moms of girls--thoughts on ear piercing?
I think we are getting them done when the dr says okay... I attempted to get them done at 3 and was too scared then at 4 then at 5, it was a very traumatic time in my life.... My dh would like them done in case she does not have a lot of hair...

Re: Moms of girls--thoughts on ear piercing?
We took Julia yesterday to get her ears pierced and she was sooo good, she only cried for like a minute I was surprised! Now she looks so adorable with her little diamond earings. I would get them done now, cause they dont know where there ears are yet so they will heal fast with out getting infected.

Same here. I just don't like seeing it either. For me ear piercing eas painful and at 30 years old I still remember it. I had it done several times because I was always letting them close up. I remember not being able to sleep on my ears because they hurt. I just can't imagine doing that to DD. When she asks to have it done then we'll do it.

Re: Moms of girls--thoughts on ear piercing?
We did it because I was tired of everyone asking how old "he" was even thought the baby was dressed in pink and had flowers on her outfits. People are so stupid! Anyway for the first several months she didn't even notice. Then she kept pulling them out so I never put them back in. So if I had another little daughter, I WOULDN'T pierce her ears again. She can make the decision when she's older.

Re: Moms of girls--thoughts on ear piercing?
Honestly, I'm not a big fan of earrings on babies...however like the above poster said, it woould definately get people to stop saying "Oh, he's so cute!!!!!"
I was older when I had mine done...1, I think. When she's older if she wants them done, that's fine.

My daughter had hers done when she was 2 1/2 and has NEVER touched them to this day. I have to ask her if she wants to change them every once in awhile.

I had mine done when I was 8. I remember asking for it and was always told on my 8th birthday, so that is when I got it done.
I just asked dh what he thinks about doing the baby's ears, he said no way.

I totally agree. I don't like seeing little babies with ears pireced. It would worry me, that they would play with them too much, or get an infection, I'd feel soooo bad. If I have a girl, I'll let her decide, when she's older.

Re: Moms of girls--thoughts on ear piercing?
If we have a girl I am going to have her ears pierced when she is about 3 or 4 months old.
My grandmother pierced mine when I was about 3 months old. my grandmother pierced all of my cousins ears. (she was a nurse. Now she's a retired nurse) I would love for her to pierce my daughters if we ever have a girl but she's older and her hands arent as stable as they used to be.

I'll only pierce Claire's ears when she asks for it. It is her body not mine. I had mine done in 2nd grade for my communion.

Re: Moms of girls--thoughts on ear piercing?
I don't havea girl, but if and when I do, I will not have hers done that young. I had to wait until I was 16!! Not that I will make my daughter wait that long, but its something I want her to appreciate having done.
