well, i think its true. i'm right in there with them.

eta: yes, i agree that people are ALWAYS using teh race card (i mean they do excessively) but in this case i believe it is a strong factor.

I have to agree. It does upset me that too may things become a race issue. But this is pretty different. I have said it before. I think it had more to do with socioecomic status, but I think their status has to do with race.

It was a mess - the ball was dropped many times....there was no plan in effect and seems like no one knew what to do. People were all over with no help, I agree. I cant tell you waht the heck happened but it was bad! My point was just that this wasnt based on race...

I want to beleive it wasn't based on race, as a citizen of this country I do feel dissapointed in the way our government handled the issue. And I think we can all agree on that. Chat Icon

so i guess it makes it ok that htey are raping people and causing riots?
just cause they are poor doesnt mean they have to act like savages.

i am sure there are plenty of them (poor) helping out others.

Of course it doesn't make it ok

But if you put hundreds of POOR, UNEDUCATED people in a disaster like that....
GIve them no food or help for a couple of days...

Watch people around them die and suffer.....
YOU WOULD GO INSANE TOO.

And there weren't a lot of rapings

I think people of LA who rioted are more shameful then them!

it seems alittle more than discussing to me.
i feel people on this thread are being picked apart for stupid reasons.
when someone states their opinion it is stupid to tell them why theiur opinion is "wrong" just say you disagree and move on.

just my opinion.

There actually have been quite a few reports of rapings, however the local authorities are not in a position at the current time to take official statements.

You know that there were young and healthy people there - you saw them on TV - yelling and complaining or just sitting around. Why didnt they get up and get out there and help?

I didn't say there weren't any of them there...

But i dont' think you or i can imagine what they have been through....and to criticize them is wrong imo.

I'm simply asking WHY didnt they do something to help themselves and help other people? All I saw was them yelling into the TV cameras. I would have thought that knowing their fellow mankind was in danger we would have seen more people helping each other...not kill or be killed.

a lot of rapes to me is anything more than two.

Race most definitely played a part in this.

A friend of mine is in the National Guard. He is there. There have been complaints of rape. Children as young as 12. All races.

What show were you watching? I saw many people helping others. A man rescued over 50 people....we are all human and have emotions. I think after despair and the trauma anger kicks in and you feel disappointed. Sad to say much of the media focuses their attention the bad situations vs. the good in people. Chat Icon

That man who rescued 50 people was a saint, seriously. But time and time again, footage played on CNN or CNN.com and MSN and Fox News and everywhere else just showed people sitting around, not helping. Granted I think the people filming these poor people should have helped too.
