Re: Ohh crap I forgot Raymond was on tonight. THATS HOW THEY ENDED IT?

The creator of the show said they didn't want any hoopla around the end of the show, because they felt that was not was the show was about. They just wanted to do a regular episode and go out on top.

I remember all the craziness with the Seinfeld ending and I didn't think the last show was that great.

I think Raymond did a better job.

Something must have gone over my head.

Yes, everyone really loved Raymond at one point, and everyone making a fuss over food at end seemed right, but I missed how it felt like a good ending to nine years.

I'm not intending to change the topic, but just to make a point, I felt the Seinfeld ending really tied in all the episodes and finalized the story. I just had hoped this one had something more in it. Unless, as I said, something slipped by me, which is not impossible. LOL.

I guess it's a matter of personal preference then because I thought the Seinfeld ending was the worst show I have ever seen.

Both Ray Romano and Phil Rosenthal have noted that the show is simply supposed to be days in the life of a family. Thus, there's no need for the big 'finale', it should have just been another day in their life, which it very much was.

The whole "know what we need?" "a bigger table" was reference to the fact that this is not going to change, what you've seen for 9 years is never going to change, it's always going to be that way.

I thought it went out like it came in - quiet, humble and on top.

Yeah, I can see how making it a huge thing like Seinfeld (which, I have to agree with Leeners, I did not really like) would be a little out of tune with the show, but I was hoping for a little something more. At least curtain calls - they didn't have that at the end of the clip show? (we had to tape it)

OK I missed the whole thing. Except for the part when they thought he would die. I thought it was going to be an hour show! I was on the phone one minute and the next, it was over Chat Icon Chat Icon

At first I was disappointed but then I realized its better they ended it like they did..."normal", just like all the other episodes. Unlike Seinfeld who tried to do something over the top (put the clan in jail) and that was a bust!

Yup, at the end of the hour special beforehand. Wasn't your 'standard' curtain calls (you'll see what I mean) but yes, they did do them.

I enjoyed everyone's comments. Speaking for myself, obviously, I always felt they were people I got to know. Not getting a curtain call with a "good-bye" at the end let me down....maybe like losing neighbors and not being there when the truck pulled away. LOL!

I wish I had seen the previous hour. That may have been more what I was looking for.

As for Seinfeld's ending....if no one minds. I actually didn't *like* it either. Sending them to jail was not what I wanted to see. I just thought it was brilliant, though, how they tied in the various episodes by bringing out a common element of greed and deception. I never looked at those shows thinking "here they go again - those selfish, self-centered people taking advantage of everyone else". Whereas "I love Lucy" you came to expect a way that she would try to trick Ricky into doing what she wanted and then him winning in the end. I just wanted to see if others thought about Raymond and Seinfeld along those lines.

Thanks for the interesting thread.

Regarding Raymond (no comment re: Seinfeld since I was never a fan)

Very well said Eileen - I totally agree!

I thought the show was in line with the whole series. But, I would have liked to have seen the curtain call.
