Having a rough day...

I went back to the doctor today and found out that my pregnancy ended due to a chromosomal disorder- Trisomy 13. She was not very supportive(if you seen earlier posts this is my last visit to her). She told me to seek genetic counseling since although common, there may be something wrong with me or DH. She also said to wait at least 2 cycles, if not more if I had any hope of a successful pregnancy. She was just so cold and not understanding. I was really hoping we could try again soon since I am 36 and really don't want to wait.

Plus my pregnant SIL saw the heartbeat today and is all excited. She and my brother are coming over tonight even though she is really the last person I need to see right now. They kind of invited themselves over- it was too hard to say no.

I just need hugs right now. Chat Icon

Oh no ChristineChat Icon It seems like the lack of bedside manner from your doctor was as bad as the news you received. Having constant reminders from your sister can't help even though we all know you are happy for her it's just hard to feel that way right now because it seems like "salt in the wound" given how close your pregnancies were timed.

While I haven't m/c you know we've been trying for one year and there are now 3 much younger teachers than me who are preggos. Of course, they are overjoyed and it has become their only topic of conversation, which I can understand, but at the same time it has caused me to not eat my lunch in the faculty room anymore. Instead, I hang out in my classroom alone and a few of my friends have started to wonder.

I know you don't want to rain on your sister's parade but does she know about your m/c? I know it's a private matter but I think you could use more support. First, definitely change doctorsChat Icon and second, maybe you should tell at least your sister. Hopefully, she will understand that while you would like to be it's very hard for you to be overjoyed right now for her and hear every single detail of how she is feeling.

Have you told anyone else? Your DH, like many men, is clamming up because he feels frustrated that he can't just "fix" your feelings and hence the reaction. I think you could use another level of support. I think one of the hardest parts of miscarrying is that so many couples go through the mourning process completely alone. Every other time we have a loss in our lives people rally around us.

Call me if you need me,

Christine my heart and prayers go out to you.
I do not believe you ever "get over" a pregnancy loss...but we do move on by going about our daily activities. You are definitely 'moving on' by being anxious to ttc again. The grieving process for this loss, is like any other. It takes a lot of time to heal...but the scar of it always remains.

Theresa gave you terrific advice.....

Sometimes distancing yourself from the things that will hurt you is a very crucial part of healing. You need to take care of yourself...and the ones that love you will understand and be there when you are ready.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I think its great that you are going to go to a different gyn....that woman sounds awful.

I know if it were me, I don't think I could see my sister in law tonight- I would try and cancel....right now you have to do what makes YOU feel better- not anything that will make this harder for you....Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Having a rough day...

Im so so sorry your having a rough time. Im GLAD your leaving that Dr. Compassion is what you need and deserve.

Also I agree with some of the others, You need to tell your sister and if possible not be around her for the time being.

When I had my M/C ...My sister found out she was PG a few days later and I remember clearly the night she told me. I was hysterical. A few days later I had to ask her to give me a few weeks because she was talking about it non stop. I was happy for her, BUT I was not the only person in her life and expected her to at least have concern for my feelings and maybe hold back the details till I was able to cope.

She was mad, I will be honest, but she got over it once she thought about it and in the end, it was what I needed, selfish or not.

After a loss, you are ENTITLED to be selfish. YOu have earned that unfortunatly...

Hang in there!!!!!!!!

I'm so sorry. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Take all the time you need to grieve and cry. When I found out we lost our baby to chromosome issues it helped give me closure knowing it was completely out of my control and I ended up being thankful it happened sooner in the pregnancy rather than later on. Still hurts today, but time does heal. Chat Icon
