We did it in our bathroom and then had them immediately repaint it. It looked horrible. Part of the problem might have been that it was egg shell. Definitely go for matte. I love chocolate but on the walls it looked terrible.

seriously! what are the odds?
what color are the rest of your rooms you thief?
I'm afraid to say 
Living/Dining room: muted gold
Kitchen/EIK: 2 shades of a grey-brown
bathroom: distressed white beadboard, white ceramic tile in the shower area, white ceramic tile flooring and greyish sage green on the walls.
have yet to figure out the foyer and second bedroom, but i'll probably do them the same color since we'll have to do it over at some point in the future anyway (  ).
Now tell me yours are exactly the same! And if so - what did you do your foyer

Oooh, good point on the matte. A glossy brown is not at all appealing to me, though I don't know I would have thought about it beforehand.

We're using that color combo in our master bedroom and bath. We're keeping it "safe" though using dark brown and blue accents in the bathroom with the walls/tiles staying beige. Same in the bedroom. Our walls are beige, our furniture is the dark brown and our accessories are the blue. Here's a pic of the bathroom accessories.

up until yesterday, i would have said, YES - you're crazy!! BUT - I went into a home yesterday that had those colors in the family room! it looked amazing!!! (of course it helped that the room was furnished and accented beautifully as well)

THAT COLOR COMBO IS VERY POPULAR NOW ... TRY IT, YOU MAY LIKE IT!
I think there was a combo spread with these colors in a recent Domino issue. Love the combo!
