Going home outfit for baby (pic request)
Looking for guidance
Not sure what you are supposed to bring the baby home from hospital in. I'm due July 6th so it will be hot. Do I just bring a onesie? Do they wear a t shirt underneath? Hat? I'm totally clueless...can you tell?
Any help would be appreciated and I'd love love love to see pics if anyone wants to share

Re: Going home outfit for baby (pic request)
Hmmm...since it's going to be so hot out, I'd say maybe a 1 piece shorts outfit, with a hat just in case

Re: Going home outfit for baby (pic request)
I would definately recommend getting a preemie outfit - the regular 0-3 months are way too big!!! They sell them at the Gap I know...anyways, here is a picture of Nick when he went home. It was very hot out that day, but I still had him bundled for some reason!

Re: Going home outfit for baby (pic request)
I bought a 0-3 outift and it was huge on my man - but it was cut big too because it fit him all three months whereas he outgrew most 0-3 in 2 months. I'll share my picture but it was winter so doesn't help with your summer situation. I had a hat, 2 piece outfit (used undershirt and diaper hospital provided), it had a jacket but he wouldn't let me put it on him, and a big blanket and the bundle me.

Re: Going home outfit for baby (pic request)
Claire was born in December so Im not much help. She wore a onesie with a hat and then was bundled in the car seat. You can use the t-shirts from the hospital since they are the side snap ones that wont hurt their belly button. I would recommend a lightweight long sleeve onesie outfit and possibly a light hat and light blanket.
ETA: I would definitley get a preemie outfit, the 0-3 months are way too big!

I found that the Ralph Lauren oufits are always cut small. Cole was in preemie clothes for the first 6 weeks, but the 3 month RL's fit him the same.

Re: Going home outfit for baby (pic request)
Andrew was brought home in a yellow outfit. My mother said it's good luck to bring a baby home in yellow. She brought all of us home in yellow.
Remember even though it may be hot out, you will have the AC on in the car (I think) and newborns don't have the same abililty to regulate their tempurates the way we do. So a light outfit and a light receiving blanket with a hat should be fine.

Emily wore this outfit for August. She had a sleeveless onesie underneath. It was 0-3 and it fit. I don't know the maker of the outfit. Image Attachment(s):

Re: Going home outfit for baby (pic request)
Yay!!! I love seeing these pics. Thanks so much. So I guess it's OK to wear a onesie...some people were telling me that you shouldn't because of the belly button.
And Stephanie.... Congratulations!!!!!!! Jared is adorable. Welcome home!

This is Emily - she came home on July 10, 2004. It was a light one piece outfit with a light jacket.

Re: Going home outfit for baby (pic request)
I'm not sure I'd buy preemie stuff, because you never know. My son was 9 lb 7 oz and three weeks early. If I had planned on a preemie outfit I would have been SOL. Even then the 0-3 months outfit he wore just fit. He never wore newborn diapers either, was right into Size 1's.
Andrew wore a one piece outfit and a light blanket over him. It was in the mid-80's when we brought him home on May 13th last year.

Re: Going home outfit for baby (pic request)
Thanks for posting this because I'm having a hard time figure out what to bring the baby home in also!
I read that you couldn't use the onsies that snap between the legs also because of the umbilical cord. Maybe that's just an old wives tale.
My baby care book says to dress a newborn in one more layer than you yourself feel comfortable in. I'm still worried I'll dress them to warmly or not warm enough.
I bought two outfits today, long sleeves and with feet...kinda like PJs but more like a daytime outfit. One for a girl and one for a boy.
But I bought 3-6 because I may be having a 8lb+ baby and am worried that the 0-3 will be too snug.
I guess I'll bring a 0-3 outfit and a 3-6 outfit and see which one fits the best.
This clothing thing is WAY too confusing to me. I have no idea what to dress this kid in!
Anyone want to give a lesson on choosing clothes and dressing a baby. It would be greatly appreciated!

Even if your baby is 9lbs - 0-3 should fit fine. My baby was in 0-3 even when he was like 11-12 lbs. He was a little over 7lbs but a long baby (21in) in the picture above and you can see how big his clothes are on him. He wore 0-3 for about 2.5 months. My 4mo old baby is a big boy (90% for everything) and 17-18lbs and long over 26in and he is wearing 3-6 months.
I hardly used those side snap undershirts (maybe the first week or so) but they were good for me in the beginning because I was afraid to put clothes over his little head at first. As far as umbilical cord - I don't think it is too big of a deal but it can depend on who you ask.
You'll get the clothing - I was clueless at first too - stil 4 mos later I still get confused.
