Re: How to beat a Speeding Ticket!???
My MIL got one on the Northern State for doing 80. She appeared in court and got it reduced to going through a stop sign, which I believe is still a moving violation, because she had to take a defensive driving course to get the points off her license. but she got out of paying a huge fine.

Re: How to beat a Speeding Ticket!???
christina,
i may get flamed for this, but since when do i care
if you know for a fact that you were within the speed limit, then by all means, fight it
heck, if the speed limit is 65, and you're slighltly over, say 70, i say fight it.
But, for the people that are going 80+ in a 55 or 65 mph zone, if you get caught, you are in the wrong and should pay the fine, IMO.
Hey, I get up to 80 on occasion and if I was ever to get caught, I'd pay it cuz I was wrong.
I'm not into working the system

Re: How to beat a Speeding Ticket!???
Do you have a friend or relative who is a lawyer? Just rbinging a lawyer puts you at the front of the line, and they're much more open to a plea bargain type of thing. i got a speeding ticket (bogus...I was NOT going fast...but whatever)...and I got it down to an "unspecified movign violation" down from 6 points to 2.

Re: How to beat a Speeding Ticket!???
I have never beat at ticket but supposedly on the ticket there is a spot to check off to receive a supporting deposition. If you do that apparently sometimes the cop won't fill one out then it is dismissed. I think you have 48 hours to do it.

Re: How to beat a Speeding Ticket!???
I got a speeding ticket in September...I was going 81 on the meadowbrook. Anyway, I pled not guilty and then went to court and they reduced the points and the fine.

Re: How to beat a Speeding Ticket!???
I got a ticket in Stewart Manor on Stewart Avenue. And when I went to say Guilty (I was pregnant at the time w. bad 24 hour morning sickness) The jusdge told me "No, you are not guilty" & then handed me his pen.
So, when I went to contest it they bumped it down to a parking violation. I had to pay like $200 ALOT better then the points & $900 they were going to charge me.
Needless to say EVERYONE that was in the courthouse that night got busted on the SAME street!

Re: How to beat a Speeding Ticket!???
Unless the cop is a no show two times, it probably won't be dismissed. But you are jst about guaranteed to have it reduced if you fight it.

Re: How to beat a Speeding Ticket!???
I fought mine. It was supposed to be 6 points but plea bargained down to 2 - failure to signal or stop at a stop sign. Forgot which one.
Definitely fight it. Best of luck.

Re: How to beat a Speeding Ticket!???
I would just show up to court. I got busted doing 85 in a 55 and just by showing up I got it down to parking on pavement. I used the old, the cruise control must have been broken thingy b/c I was on a highway.

Re: How to beat a Speeding Ticket!???
thanks everyone for your responses....
i'm particularly interested in a little more info regarding this "supporting deposition":

can anyone elaborate, or provide a little more detail about this? is this something the officer has to fill out regardless of what i plea, or is this something he has to respond to if i request it???

Re: How to beat a Speeding Ticket!???
The "supporting deposition" might be in NYC. I know nothing about that. I have gotten a speeding ticket in Nassau 80 in a 55, and my sister got 45 in a school zone. Both times (I went with my sister) I went to court on the specified date and they assigned a DA to the case (no cop necessary for the first appearance) who recommended to us that he would drop the charge to a moving violation with the same fine but no points. For me it was tailgating and I forget what my sister's was. At that point, we went before the judge who asked if we agreed and said okay and paid the fine. You have to have the cash, BTW they don't take checks or credit cards. That being said, you can try to fight it totally, but it's apparently very difficult to get them to drop speeding charges. He probably got you on the radar and unless you can prove it's a faulty radar you have a tough battle. The only reason I know this is because my Uncle is a Nassau cop and he told me the best plan of action.
Good luck.

Re: How to beat a Speeding Ticket!???
isn't it possible that they could have clocked another car?
Definitely fight it - you have nothing to lose. I've been lucky to talk my way out of every ticket except one (woman cop).
