Vegetarians

Need your help. We are trying to plan a nice dinner with SIL and BIL-- we are planning on spending a lot of $$ on the dinner since it's like a combo wedding gift to each other.

I am a vegetarian and BIL is a very picky eater. We are having a hard time finding a place.

I have had great tasting menus at Aquavit, Gramercy Tavern, etc. and other places look interesting, but food is not good for BIL.

Please help with suggestions-- looking to spend anywhere from $100+ a person, plus wine. A lot of places do not post their veggie options, but if you have had a good experience anywhere let me know.

Re: Vegetarians

we are looking for a really special experience-- a tasting menu with a wine pairing, etc.

I just googled Gasho-- looks like a steak place.

Re: Vegetarians

My wife is a veggie and we just went to Nobu for our 1 yr anniversary. They were really awesome and knowledgable about the veggie options they had available. They even offered to make her a dish that wasn't on the menu. On top of all that, the food was amazing. You can easily do $100+/person w/ drinks and desert. Plus you never know who you're going to see there. d= ) We were walking down the block and saw Rachel Weisz (sp?) eating outside at another restaurant.

Il Mulino in the village is to die for and VERY upscale. I love it there. I'm a vegetarian and they always made something special for me. Very expensive but worth every penny. You have to make reservations far in advance though.

Re: Vegetarians

My brother runs caravan of dreams DH worked there, my sister works there..been many times. It is kosher vegan.

The atmosphere, is very "villagey" sort of like " oh this is the place" when you are standing outside. But it does very well. Has a huge following. Huge celeb following as well. Its basically like you are sitting in someone's home, not commercialized at all.

DH and my sister are huge meat eaters, so are my parents, but we always found something on the menu for everyone. It may not "fill" your brother in law up, but portions are big, the food in general just won't leave you feeling "full" you won't be hungry anymore, just not that thanksgiving bloated feeling.

Re: Vegetarians

How about the wine cellar in the Carltun. It is supposed to be fabulous and I'm sure they will accomodate any diet. Also Louis XVI in Patchogue?

Re: Vegetarians

there is a great place in union square..Blue Fin Grill or something like that. I don't know if you eat fish or not, I don't eat meat but I eat fish.

The food is incredible and they have a nice wine selection.

Re: Vegetarians

thanks for the suggestions-- we have settled on Mas. From what I hear-- it's very good!

I'll check out some of the other places though... definitely in the city since we are in Hoboken and SIL & BIL are in the city.

As for the Carltun-- we got married there and still have yet to go back!! Eventually though...
