How many people still write checks

at the supermarket, Target, etc?

I understand "older" people not knowing how to use debit cards and such, but, I'm always surprised when I see a young person doing pulling out their checkbook.

No need to balance your checkbook on line...And YES, you can fill out everything but the amount while the checker is ringing up your $150 order! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: How many people still write checks

I rarely see checks being written for supermarkets and stuff.

I only write checks for rent and the odd bill.

Re: How many people still write checks

I write checks so rarely for anything. Maybe I write 1 or 2 a month for certain things. I pay everything with Amex or Debit card and all my bills are paid online.

Re: How many people still write checks

I do all my banking online and all my shopping with debit cards or some other means.

I think the last check I wrote was for a fundraiser.

Thats what I was thinking.

But, if you are going to pay by check in a store, at least be courteous about it!

Also, older people may not have the faith in technology that we do. Some people are very paranoid about trusting the internet.

Yes, I understand that. I said that in the first post. I'm talking about young people writing checks in stores.

Re: How many people still write checks

The ONLY time I pay by check in a store is Costco, and they print the check for me, I just sign. The only way other than cash to pay there is amer express, and I don't have that card.

Re: How many people still write checks

that drives me crazy! and they're never ready, right? and it always takes them 11 hours to fill out the check and find their forms of ID!

Like the other Lauren, I do all my banking online and other shopping with debit/credit cards. I do write checks for DH's child support and for my doctor's office co-pays. That's about it.

ETA: If you're going to pay with a check, at least fill in the other stuff before you go to the store like the name of the store and your driver's license ID number, some banks will even pre-print the ID number is you pay with checks a lot!

Re: How many people still write checks

In the supermarket? Never. Only for a couple of bills. Even then, we pay most of our bills online.

Seriously! Or at least start filling out WHILE they're ringing you up. I can't tell you how many people I've seen that START filling out after the cashier has told them the total. Come on now!

Re: How many people still write checks

no, never in stores... I use them to pay my co-pays for Dr. offices mostly, and if I am giving a monetary gift. Otherwise I ALWAYS use the debit card.

EXACTLY!!!!!!!

At Target yesterday the woman in front of me had $150 worth of small items. Took the cashier almost 10 minutes to ring it all up while the woman did nothing, and then when she told her the total, the woman pulled out her checkbook, and balanced/recorded her transaction first!!!! I was SEETHING!!! Chat Icon
