Tipping question

WHY do places like Cold Stone and Marble Slab Creameries look for tips? And other WEIRD places?

I mean its their job to serve me the ice cream, and I pay an arm and a leg for it...why must I tip them?
I dont tip the Mcdonalds Fry man? Chat Icon

Re: Tipping question

I know
it sort of bothers me.
the only places I tip are places that I go every day.
like I go to cosi every day for coffee in teh morning & those girls and guys really take care of me- so I do tip them on occassion
but otherwise, I don't tip @ those weird places.

Re: Tipping question

I dont even pay attention. It's their job to serve me ice cream - what have they done that was above and beyond scooping ice cream and putting it in a cup?

I really wanted to ask that question yesterday there...I mean I know , I know ...they have to pound the "goodies" into the ice cream. but If its so hard, go work at Carvel where they pull the lever.

Re: Tipping question

If I ever saw a tip thing at carvel I honestly believe I would ask them why??

Though it's amusing when someone tips the cold stone crew and they sing. I feel like saying "Sing monkey sing" Chat Icon

Re: Tipping question

Although I don't agree w/this all the time, people in the Food Service Industry will feel it's ok to have a tip jar because they are performing a service for you.Just like bartenders & waitresses they are serving you!

yeah but even a waiter asks me if I want another or gives me some peanuts. I dont get this side of the fast food industry and how they are going above their job duties..heck they dont even look HAPPY to be there half the time.

Yeah but on things where people aren't really doing anything....well its no different then teh person behind the walgreens counter that scans something for me....aren't they doing a service as well?
If I am not sitting at a table or a bar and you are not bringing something to me....well then, I am not being served.

Re: Tipping question

Flight attendents. They should be the ones with big tip jars. They are always bringing you blankets or pillows. Drinks and snacks. Always service with a smile.

Re: Tipping question

The people at Cold Stone actually mix the ice cream for you....which after watching..didn't look easy at all...

So i think a tip is understandable

Nope. That is what they make. So a paycheck could be like 20 bucks because after claiming tips, taxes get taken out based upon tips too.
