thanks girls

yes i am a guy who reads TTC. Boosh is my wife and we thank you for starting this thread. This was a big concern for us, but we have taken the necessary steps to get on the TTC wagon.

That's very cute. Concerned husbands are more than welcome in my book.

I also read somewhere that you only need 200 extra calories a day when you are pregnant. So conceivably (no pun intended Chat Icon ) you could do a WW type diet to help you track your calories. I am worried about eating too much and I don't want to end up with GD when the time comes. And I also have the cholesterol issue, but I've cut out a lot of stuff and I've been taking some supplements and I'll be tested again before going all out. Chat Icon

I am plus size also and my doctor was very strict with the weight issue. Too strict for my taste so I changed doctors this month.

I've lost about 42 pounds on WW so far and will contintue to do so until I get PG.

That is great Chris, congratulations on that terrific weight loss!Chat Icon Chat Icon

TY again for posting this thread. Even though my Dr. said 'have fun" and "good luck", weight was still a concern on my part.
My mother was on WW when she was pg with my sister and didnt gain a lot of weight through her pregnancy.
I gave up the soda (have one with lunch) thats it. No more diet soda for me! Its seltzer now!
Now, if only I can be just as strong with food!

Re: Plus Size and TTC

what is the story with TTC/pregnancy and diet soda?

On average, I drink one diet coke with lunch, and sometimes one or two dies cokes with dinner. I drink lots of water the rest of the time (4 - 6 bottles a day).

I've been trying to quit the diet coke at lunch and at dinner time have a non-caffinated diet soda.

I know diet soda is bad, as well as the caffine...but exactly how bad and what is acceptable?

Is Crystal Light Iced Tea better?

I think the only problems are 1.) sodium- when you are PG you can retain water and 2.) the nutrasweet.

When I was PG with my son my MD said in moderation it was fine.

I dont know if diet soda is "bad" for you. I just wanted to give it up on my own. If there is nothing else in the house, I may take a glass of it but Im trying to stick more on the seltzer/water kick. Just a personal goal.

Re: Plus Size and TTC

I'm not TTC, but I just wanted to say that there is definitely the possibility of having a healthy pg when you are overweight. Through my whole pg, I only gained 15lbs and I didn't have any complications.

As far as diet soda, my doctor said it was OK to have 1 or 2 a day. Everything is monderation.

Good Luck to all of you ladies.

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I would see if there were any new ladies who would like to continue this thread. I used to post on the Plus Size thread over at liweddings.com when I was planning my wedding.

No longer a bride, but still plus size :D

Re: Plus Size and TTC

Sure!! Here's a plus size girl ttc since Feb. No luck yet, and will be going in for testing sometime this month (we're both over 35) to see why we can't get pg.

So far, the dr. has yet to mention my weight, and i've spoken to another girl who goes to my dr who is plus size and she is 7 months pg. The Dr. never mentioned losing weight to her. She did, however get gestational diabeties during her pregnancy, and also goes to a nutritionist.

Are you guys planning on losing weight before ttc?? I'm actually taking a break from all of this and am going to see a nutritionist. I'll do anything at this point.

Hey :) I hope the testing goes well. We aren't quite ready for that. This is only our second month TTC. I'll be 30 and DH will be 35 this year.

I'm actually looking for a new doctor. Who do you go to, if you don't mind me asking? I would prefer a "weight friendly" doctor. I've had friends who had doctors who were so mean and had them in tears by the end of the visit because of their weight. I don't need that added stress.

I've lost 40 lbs. since January. But I'm still overweight. I don't know if I'll ever be thin and I don't want to wait to have a baby just because I'm overweight. I know plenty of women who are plus-size and have happy and healthy and wonderful pregnancies.

I hope and wish that for both of us! Chat Icon

Re: Plus Size and TTC

plus size here too...but we are not yet ttc... we talked about trying this coming winter.

my last ob/gyn visit I talked to her about our plans to ttc, and she never mentioned my weight. just told me to come back when we were ready and she would give me some pre-natal vitamins.

my sister is a dr. and has mentioned to me though that she is concerened about my health should I get pg at my current weight.

I go to Dr's Polidoro and Eggner in East Islip. You see either one of them. They are very great dr's.

Hi Donna and Michelle! :) I wish you much Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I know it can be very unhealthy to have a baby when you are over-weight but I think that if you take care of yourself and watch everything carefully and take the necessary precautions you can indeed have healthy pregnancies and babies. Women do it all the time. Good luck!

mjc - Thanks for the welcome! I know there is an increased risk of gestational(sp?) diabeties if you are overweight. Even though I am plus sized, I am generally a very healthy eater.

LadyPrincess - I think about that all the time!! How much bigger will my already DD's get???? Chat Icon
