Not sure if this is going to help you:
For my mom: A pie dish from Williams & Sonoma A snowglobe - that I know she wanted The Hallmark snowman playing the piano
For my dad: Hair trimmer from Sharper Image A couple of DVD's
For my MIL: A platter from Williams & Sonoma And some cookie dishes
For FIL: Not exactly sure yet - maybe something for his new motorcycle

For my mama: Some stupid pair of clogs she's been talking about forever and clothes. For my dad: A scanner. He has been dying for one of these. It's one of those that you can hear the police and firemen and planes on.
For JT's parents: a new 21st century cordless phone and a gift certificate to put towards a camcorder.

Re: What is everyone buying for their Mom / Dad for the Holidays?
My mom is getting a new toaster oven (hers just crapped out) and some small stuff from the baby (CD, book, frame, etc.)
My dad is getting similar small stuff from the baby and we got him a combo DVD/VCR. He's getting divorced and I don't know what she took, so I got it from Target and figure he can exchange it for what he needs.
ILs got some crystal animals that they display in their house. Not my scene (too much to dust) but it makes her happy.

Its so difficult to buy for my parents. They never ask for anything.
How about stuff you know they enjoy? Like a GC to a restaurant they love, or have been meaning to try. Or a gift card for a movie theatre?
Or you could replace some stuff they own, but is owrn, like new sheets, towels, a comforter.

Re: What is everyone buying for their Mom / Dad for the Holidays?
Parents are realy hard to buy for. My dad always tells me "please don't get me anything" but how can I do that?!!
I'm giving him a book - "Shut Up and Eat". It's stories, recipies etc from famous Italians - it looks pretty cute and, I mean, how many golf shirts can I get the man.

One year I got my parents a gift certificate to Lowes Movie Theatre and one for Outback Steakhouse. They love going to dinner and a movie on Sunday afternoons at Bay Terrace, so they loved it.

I do something very similar for my parents! They are both retired now and love to get movie tickets and gift cards to restaurants (even if its just Boulder Creek or Pizzeria Uno, they never treat themselves out to the movies or out to eat, so its a great gift)
We have a Dinner Theater in Westchester that is actually quite good, so I've gotten them a gift card to the theater, where they can choose whichever show they'd like
You can also do giftcards (via Ticketmaster I think? Or maybe Telecharge) good towards Broadway Show tix if they like things such as that
My parents are older and have EVERYTHING they want or need in the ways of jewelry, gadgets, clothing, electronics , etc. So I try to get things that they dont do or buy for themselves in order to celebrate the holidays
I also get my Mom a gift card to her nails place , her hairdresser or for a massage at the spa - she loves that
Dad , heck any Yankee item will make him happy (though I'm sure that is not applicable to your parents, Rich )
edited to add: Anthony always gets his Dad stuff for his car... he's had to cut back on his activity due to health issues so he gives him gift cards to the car wash (which he loves!) this year he got his Dad a great tool set, the deluxe thing at Sears.. Craftsman, I'm not sure which one.

It's on backorder right now ... but it looks excellent ... look at each of the DVD's descriptions. Also, google "Time Life & discount coupons" ... you may find 10% off and free shipping ...

Re: What is everyone buying for their Mom / Dad for the Holidays?
My parents are hard to shop for as well. So I looked around the house and saw what was getting old. One year I got them new everyday silverware. They've been using the same stuff since they got married!
This year I'm going for a microwave. The one they have is so old it's probably illegal.
Though they didn't ask for this stuff... I know they'll use it.
