Re: The day you went to the hospital to have a baby...
I remember...5/28/04
getting up and trying to shave my legs because i was going to have an internal at the Dr.. i was just 36 weeks
I remeber looking at my nails and saying that i really need to get them done before Tuesday( i was going to be induced that day)
I stopped a a bagel place and got a bagel twist with cream cheese.. not knowing it would be my last meal for 36 hours
I had a 1:15 dr appt so i took the long way and did a return at Home Depot and went to marshalls and bought some stuff
Took the long way to the Dr and filled the car up with Gas
Got to the Dr.. had blood pressure takes.. 144/111
Started my NST test.. i was high risk so i was already going to the dr 2x a week
Dr came in did my internal.. said there was NOTHING.. i was still thick as can be..
Dr turned off he lights and put his hand on mine and Said that I needed to go to the Dr Right away to get induced. He would try everything in his power to not let me have a csection
Got dressed .. he told me to drive carefully.. dr was 30 min from my house..
i remember called Dh and telling him he had to leave now that we were going to have a baby...i was very very calm at this point...
Tried to call my parents.. my ssiter was in from Floirda and NO ONE HAD A CELL PHONE WIH THEM! !! I left them 15 messages.. and then thought to myslef that i should call a resturant that i think they might be at.. but i didn't and they were..
I do not remember driving 65 miles an hour on 684.
I got home my bags were packed.. i called my friend in St Louis and she calmed me down
I put the sheet on the baby's mattress becasue i did not want to the room to look unfinished.
Dh got home in lighting speed and I remember sayying to hom don't forget the car seat....
Got to the hospital.. friday before memorial day It was PACKED.. i was all set up in recovery and they moved me to a room..
I watched the food network and inlaws brought back dinner for Dh and I told hoim that he bette ea it outside...
i remember contractions and my mom crying becasue she did not like to see me in pain.
i got my epidural and slept.. the next thing i know it was 6 am and i was pushing...
I still can not i rememberthis day two years later!!!!

Re: The day you went to the hospital to have a baby...
It was the first snowfall of the winter.
We almost got into a car accident on the way to the hospital.
Signed in and thought I was going to throw up.
After I got into the room and changed into my gown, as my DH was lounging on the recliner with the remote in his hand I was begging him to take me home
The nurse came in and told me my 9am c-section would not be done until around 11:30 because of an emergency.
I called my mom and told her not to rush...
His mom showed up with a pair of Winnie the Pooh socks and Christmas socks for Cassidy.
Watched TV until they came to get me at about 11 to prep me.
Spinal hurt like a b!tch.
Before I knew it, I heard my little angel crying, DH cut the cord through his tears, and I was holding her within a minute of so...

When you were in your "moments", didn't they seem almost surreal, like they weren't happening to you? I was definitely feeling that way. Like sort of out of body so to speak.
Holy crap, that is so true! The best part of my whole giving birth was the scariest! They give gas & air here, thats laughing gas! And I had a totally out of body experience while svcking on that gas & air stick. I could think clearly, but I had no control on my body...but I did break through the haze at one point to tell my husband that the whole thing was *like a Prince song*
In case you were wondering, it was either Little Red Corvette or Raspberry Beret. Not Darling Nikki as my husband claims.
You're a riot!!!

I wish I had a story like this I spent a year in therapy trying to not relive that day over and over again in my mind so I can't imagine ever writing it down like this.
I'm sorry yours was so difficult.

Re: The day you went to the hospital to have a baby...
2/6/05: a week before my due date
2/5/05 I lost my mucus plug and joked with DH that Andrew would be born on Superbowl Sunday. He said 'NO WAY' he will be born next weekend. He has to!
I went to bed thinking I was having Andrew soon, but it was just a hunch. My water broke at 3:30 am. I woke up DH and he was agitated and didn't understand what that meant. I said I don't know but I think we're supposed to call the doctor.
When the doctor called me back she said to go to NSUH and check in and they'd confirm whether or not my water really did break. DH took his sweet time getting ready (worse than a girl!) because he said it didn't matter what I looked like, he was the one who had to give everyone news and updates in the waiting room!
Checked into the hospital at 5:30/5:45. Left my undies on after changing into my hospital gown and all the nurses howled with laughter at me. They said the baby would have a hard time coming out that way!
My contractions were never more than 5 minutes apart for just about 13 hours. I don't remember pushing too long, but I remember DH pressuring the doctor and nurses to 'get him out' before the Superbowl.
Andrew was born in time for DH to catch the 2nd half of the game and we all had a great night.

Re: The day you went to the hospital to have a baby...
I was in the hospital for 8 days at 34 weeks for pre-term labor (just about 100% effaced and 1 cm dialated and contracting lots). When I left the hospital I was seen weekly and each week I was dialated a little more.
I had a 2:00 Drs apt (Monday 8/29) and when I got there they told me I had the wrong day but I could stay anyway.
When I saw the Midwife, she told me I was just about 4cm dialated and 100% effaced. She (calmly) told me to go home, get my bag, get my DH (I was with my mom) and go have myself a baby .
I went out into the waiting room, smiled at my mom and she yelped with joy.....me on the other hand was scared to death.
I called DH from the parking lot and told him there would be no OT tonight we are going to the hospital....he thought it was a joke.
I went home and went on the computer, listened to my mom call veryone in creation and waited for DH to come home.
He rushed home, jumped in the shower got ready and was standing behind me waiting to go. I told him I wasn't ready..............He said NOT READY? I just raced home to get you to the hospital and you don't want to go? Nope, I'm not ready I'll just wait awhile. I kept this up until my midwife called and wanted to know where I was .......
So then we went...............
Pulling into the hospital I was scared to death. Everyone was waiting for me when I got there. They prepped me right away, waited for the IV to give me enough fluid and broke my water.
I remember shaking like CRAZY after getting the epidural and DH was so nervous about it and thought I was cold but I kept saying I'm fine, I'me fine (with teeth chattering).
I remember laying on my side (after they broke my water)letting out a little puff and thinking I sh*t on the table ....I made DH look and didn't (thank god!) but we laughed.
I remember laughing a lot.
I remember LOVING the epidural and telling the technician that I love him!!
I remember it getting scary a few times because the baby's heartrate kept dipping but he was out within 3 1/2 hours of me getting to the hospital

Re: The day you went to the hospital to have a baby...
4/12/06
I remember going to the bathroom in the morning around 9 or 10 and I saw I lost mucus plug and though it would happen soon..
I remember then laying on then and I started getting what felt like menstrual cramps and decided to put to use what I learned in lamaze incase I was in labor....
I remember having the need to clean the bathroom and kitchen with white vingear and water, I didn't want to use any chemical products even though I used it durning my pregnancy and I sanitized everything down to the sponges...
I remember being in denial about going into labor because I didn't think it was really happening so I just went about my day straighting up and cleaning ( I didnt think I was nesting because I always clean when I am home or really bored and it was my 2nd day that I was home on my materinity leave..
I remember speaking to my SIL and telling her that what I was experiencing but I couldnt go into labor and have the baby on my nieces birthday because it wouldn't be fair to her...
I remember at 4pm that I went into the shower and made sure I shaved everything just incase I went to the hospital....
I remember driving to Flushing from Farmingdale at 6pm during traffic to go to my SIL's for my nieces birthday and while driving was having contractions every 20 minutes...(
I remember arriving their and I didnt want anyone to know how often I was having them and everytime I had a contraction I would turn to the kids and play with them...
I remember at 8:15pm DH giving me my plate of food he made for me for dinner and complaining that he put to much and I didnt want to eat it all beause I didnt want to poop on the table, but I still ate all of it....
I remember leaving at 10 pm and going home and they were coming on every 8 to 10 minutes. By the time I got home and changed into my pj's it was 11 and I made DH start timing them.
I remember having to the go the bathroom and having contractions talk about being uncomfortable! But I was happy because my system was cleaned out ...
I remember calling my doctor at 12:15am on 4/13/06 and she told me to go to the hospital because they were four minutes apart and last almost a minute...
I remember getting to the hopital and the triage nurse in maternity took their time since it was my first, I was only 1cm two days prior and I didnt seem to complain to much durning my contractions...
I remember the PA being surprised when she exaimed me and I was 5-6cm at 1:20am and I was proud that I went so long without an epidural but now wanted it....
I remember being nervous about geting the epidural because I didnt think I would be able sit still durning a contractions on top of shaking from the fluids they were giving but I did and I was so proud of myself...
I remember them giving me pitocin and shorting after that maybe a half hour I needed to push..
I remember pushing and wanting to give up because the epidural was wearing up and I was feeling almost everything and telling my Dr. that I am never having anymore kids while I was pushing and then saying that if I decided to have kids I want a c-section...
I remember after an hour of pushing hearing my son cry for the first time and seeing the tears roll down DH's face...
I remember the afterbirth and cleaning me out being painful and wondering why people left this part out...
I remember looking at my son for the first time and couldnt believe how in love I was with him...
I remember feeling when we got home that I was happy that I didn't have him on my neices birthday but the following day and that I couldn't imagine my life without him and couldnt wait to do it all over again with my next child..
I think this is a great thread..

Re: The day you went to the hospital to have a baby...
I remember everything very vividly but it also felt like an out of body experience - Especially when I was on the table all exposed for the c-section. I remember being in utter shock when the doc said she is okay and my husband and I looked at each other and said "she?". We didnt know what we were having but everybody told me I was carrying like I was having a boy and I started to believe the myth.

Re: The day you went to the hospital to have a baby...
I remember feeling sick when I woke up. (like I did every day for 9+ mos. )
I remember my parents calling and telling me they were already at the hospital waiting for me -and I just woke up. ( I was induced)
I remember putting on make-up and taking a thorough shower.
I remember how scared DH looked in the car on the way there.
I remember the nurse telling me to put all of my personal belongings in a paper bag.
I remember my sadistic doctor taking away my pain medication because she felt I wasn't pushing right.
I remember having no sense of time.
I remember the doctor telling us she could see the head- and then telling Hubby to take a look. Poor guy.
I remember signing papers in agony so I could have my c-section. Finally after 11 hours of pushing the Doc decided it was getting dangerous.
I remember throwing up on the c-section table.
I remember the pulling sensation.
I remember the Doc saying "Wow! This is a much bigger baby than I thought...I guess I didn't make a big enough incision."
I remember the baby crying- and then I started crying.
I remember the Doctors assumed we knew the sex of the baby and didn't announce it. (We didn't) My Dh finally said "So what do we have?"
I remember the moment they said it was a girl I felt like I knew that already in my heart.
I remember it felt like it took forever to sew me back up.
I remember shaking and feeling a sense of burning in my abdomen.
I remember my family visiting me in the recovery room and telling me how beautiful (and big!) my baby was.
I remember so much more but I have to stop somewhere...

Re: The day you went to the hospital to have a baby...
5/10/06
I remember Bama the dog (who was sleeping on the bed with DH and I) waking up and making the noise he makes right before he throws up (the day before he had eaten my WHOLE bag of Jolly Ranchers!) I asked DH to take him downstairs so he wouldn't throw up on the bed.
I remember at 2:30am waking up with what I thought were gas pains, then realizing that this pain kept coming and going every 6 minutes. DH was not back in bed yet. He had taken Bama downstairs and fell asleep on the couch.
I remember thinking, "these CAN'T be labor pains! I'm not due for 2 weeks!"
After I realized that these really WERE labor pains, the first thought that came to my mind was, "OMG! I have to shave my legs!!!"
I remember holding Jackson in my arms and not knowing what to think. I was so dumbfounded that I had just given birth and was holding my son (MY SON! ) I was just in a daze.
I remember thinking that giving birth to this baby was my biggest achievement yet, and I felt like the most special woman in the world

Re: The day you went to the hospital to have a baby...
- I remember cleaning the house the night before. I was being induced, so I knew he was coming and I wanted the house to look nice for when he arrived home. - I remember how I didn't sleep a wink all night and how DH didn't either. - I remember taking a shower in the morning and thinking "This will be my last peaceful shower." - I remember my heart racing the entire drive to the hospital and the panicked look on DH's face. - I remember how friendly the nurses were and how comfortable the room was before they started the drugs. - I remember how painful the drugs made my contractions - I remember how odd it felt when the doctor broke my water - I remember the looks of concerns on the nurses faces when looking at his heart rate on the charts and how serious they looked when they said they needed to speak with my doctor. - I remember how concerned my doctor looked and how scared DH looked when the doctor asked to speak with him outside. - I remember being wheeled down the hallway towards the operating room for my C-section. It felt like such a long ride and DH looked so worried, even in his ridiculous scrubs. - I remember the beautiful sound of my sons cries when they pulled him out and how proud DH looked to hold him and how jealous I felt that I couldn't hold him yet. - I remember the joy of finally holding him; so tiny, so perfect... I remember savoring everything; how he looked, how he smelled...

Re: The day you went to the hospital to have a baby...
As the Aunt and sister of mommy2bellabean...
I remember getting the call that Kelly was going straight to the hospital fromt he drs. office.
I remember calling everyone I knew and telling them that Isabella is coming a few weeks early.
I remember not being able to sleep the whole night and debating with my cousin if we should go to the hospital that night.
I remember calling the sub service, 3 days into school and telling them I am taking the day off because I am going to be an aunt and am one of the coaches in the delivery room...
I remember goingto school at 8am to write qucik plans and telling everyone the time has arrived and them giving me hugs saying Congratulations...
I remember picking up some snacks for Kelly on the way to LIJ so she can get through the day.
I remember it being a LONG day, for Kelly that is..
I remember greeting my family and telling them she is almost ready to push and coming back to the room and it already happening.
I remember helping Kelly and trying to help her.. and remember the smeelling salt because I was getting light headed... from the heat not from anything else!!!
I remember when Isabella finally arrived into this wolrd and I got to experience that miracle. I cried like a baby.
I remember running to my family downstairs and telling them she is here so kelly and jay could have some privacy..
I remember coming back and being one of the first ones to hold the little munchkin..
And finally after a few more hours, at 1 am, i remember driving back home and thinking to myself, what a day!!!!!!

Re: The day you went to the hospital to have a baby...
9/18/05 Sunday - I remember waking at around 9am (I was so tired from my baby shower the day before..my family came over after and would not leave ) went to the bathroom and felt her kicking
- I sat at my kitchen table to test my blood (had GD)
- I stood up and felt a gush, put my hand there and it was blood. Ran thru my house scraming for DH
- I remember him calling 911 and then laying in my hallway on a blanket waiting for the ambulence.
- I remember the Cop and the EMT people who came to the house.....I was in a bloody T Shirt and that was it (had to take off my pj bottoms) They wraped me in a sheet to take me out of the house.
- I remember them taking me out of my house and the the quick ride to Stony Brook, and the nurse asking me tons of questions when I got there.
- I remember the Dr covering for my OB coming in and saying that I had to have an emergency C-Section.
fast forward to - 11:17 am....Hayley was born.
I do remember more details...didn't want to bore you all with them.

Re: The day you went to the hospital to have a baby...
I was being induced on 9/11...no choice, as 9/12 was full and they didn't want to wait until 9/13.
I watched the 5 year anniversary of 9/11 news coverage from my hospital bed a lot of the day and then changed the channel b.c I started feeling depressed
I concentrated on the positives of having a 9/11 baby..something happy to celebrate each year as opposed to feeling overwhelming sadness. And the fact that life does go on despite awful circumstances.
DH did a great job of making me laugh all day, drawing me funny pics of me in labor and getting more and more lines in my IV...
I remember being told that I had gone from 3cm to 9 in a matter of 2 hours and it would soon be time to push. 1/2 an hour later, I was complete. In 5 minutes and approx 5 pushes John James came into the world at 9:51pm.
I remember crying, DH crying, and Johnny crying!! Lol. He was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen despite being covered in goo! I must have started at him the whole time after and when they took him away for testing, I didn't want to let go.
45 minutes after I had him I ate a whole turkey sub Labor made me hungry!!!
I will never forget that day, and even with the annoyance and sleep deprivation teething has brought, I would not trade one moment of this past 8 months.
He is my miracle! Image Attachment(s):

Re: The day you went to the hospital to have a baby...
Well - it wasnt too long ago...
I remember my internal was actually on my due date.
I remember wearing my BIG maternity jeans that day - they actually were always too big for me!
I remember going for my internal on my due date. I decided to wear my Vans sneakers, which werent supportive enough I guess. My ankle twisted on my way to the car and I had a bad sprain. I limped into my dr's office!
I remember STILL not being dilated or effaced, and preparing to schedule an induction
I remember being concerned that I wasnt feeling the baby move as much, and eventually convincing my dr. to do a sono, where she saw I had low fluid, and sent me to the hospital
I remember begging to go home 1st to get my stuff, which she agreed to, and calling my dad, who wanted to take me to the hospital
I remember the cervadil, and DH bringing me Indian food that night in the hospital and watching a movie together on the laptop
The next morning- doing cervadil again, waiting another 10 hours, and still needing a csection.... the rest is in my birth story!

Re: The day you went to the hospital to have a baby...
I was woken up at 2:30 am, wondering why I was getting gas pains every 6 minutes
Tried drinking water, lying in difference positions, etc and nothing made the pains go away. Then I started feeling it in my back and knew it was for real.
Jumped in the shower, because I needed to shave my legs
Finished packing my hospital bag, which I had only started to pack just recently (I was 2 weeks early).
E-mailed some friends to give them an update, and then wrote in my baby journal that I might be a mommy that day!
Told DH what was going on and that I think we should go to the hospital. He said, "are you sure?" Um, YES I'm sure!!!!!
Dropped Bama off at Camp Bow Wow.
Wore jeans and my Jackson Hole, WY sweatshirt to the hospital. Little did I know I'd be giving birth to a boy, and Jackson was the name that we'd already picked out

Re: The day you went to the hospital to have a baby...
I remember waking up and thinking that for the rest of my life, each year on this day, I will be waking on my child's b-day.
I remember my mother in my kitchen, organizing my food pantry when I woke up.
I remember blowing out my hair in between phone calls.
I remember my mother packing a change of clothes...one outfit was her grandmother outfit, another was a comfy one to snuggle the baby in.
I remember thinking I am going to throw these jeans away the second this baby is out.
I remember Christmas music on the radio in the car.
I really remember leo hyperventilating in the car and my mom in the backseat searching for something he can breathe into.
I remember begging leo to let me drive as he was panting for air out the window.
I remember walking into the hospital, and my mother suggesting Leo take the wheelchair ride that was being offered to him.
I loved the triage nurses. They kept calling me sweetheart and baby with their southern twang, it was the most soothing thing.
I remember Leo having a nervous stomach and needing to run to the restroom 4 times during triage.
I remember walking to the operating room, with a huge smile on my face, passing my mother(who had just ate an entire box of crunch n munch in 10 minutes) telling her I am fine.
I remember seeing Leo in scrubs, he finally seemed at ease thinking he was JD and TUrks new friend.
I remember looking at the operating table wondering how my big *** was going to get up there and balance on that skinny thing.
I remember michele31's posts...my arms don't need to be tied down. I am my own advocate. Requesting that my baby be brought to me asap for a few minutes to nurse quickly.
I remember the shock on the operating teams faces when I told them the sex was unknown. They became so excited.
I remember the nurse hugging me as I got my spinal. Kindness like that made the whole experience feel as though I was with friends.
I remember laying down and my dr coming in. Joking and asking if I had walked my 3 miles that morning.
I remember the anastesiologist rubbing my temples and shoulders as they prepped me.
I remember the dr announcing to go get dad.
I remember the nurse placing my hand into Leos and she held my other hand.
I remember assuring Leo I was fine.
I remember Leo telling me the baby is out...I said why isn't he crying? Leo said I don't know...The dr said the baby isn't out. Uh Leo do you know what we are looking for? I don't know Jan, maybe its your liver or something.
I remember hearing "Dad stand up and tell Mom about her baby" Leo stood up and said OMG its your boy. And he's really white.

1-13-07 Had a Bday party for DH here at the house, about 15 people and a great time. Didnt get to bed until about 1AM or so. The guys thought it would be GREAT to heat up White Castle earlier and the house still smelled. The baby was kicking, rolling, and moving like crazy. I finally fell asleep around 3AM. Got up around 8:30 and during pregnancy used to have very little leakage..well this AM was a lot more than usual. We came downstairs, DH made pancakes for breakfast. Read the Sunday paper, got up started putting dishes in the diswasher, looked down and realized, Ok..this is NOT normal. Water coming down my legs. I remember running upstairs to get DH and tell him "I think this is it" and start crying. He calms me down, we call the dr. they tell me to come in. DH grabs my bag, I go back upstairs "Where are you going"? He asks. "I have to take a shower 1st" I yelled. I took a quick shower, shaved and off we went. The drive to Huntington felt like forever. We got there, the told me go right up to L&D and dh went back down to finish paper work. I was hooked up to IVs right away... Cervadil, Pitocin, Sunday night Still no baby! Monday AM..Still no baby! Finally 3:55PM Monday we met Bryan, via c section!

Re: The day you went to the hospital to have a baby...
5/21/06
3:30am, I woke up DH and said to him I just felt my 1st contraction. DH said, are you sure? Of course I am sure. He said to me just call the doctor around 7:00am and he went back to sleep. I couldn't go back to sleep so I stayed up.
6:30am- Woke up DH again and said I think I will be having this baby today.
8:00am-I called my doctor and he said head to the hospital and I will examine you there.
10:00am-Arrived at Huntington Hospital. I was 3cm dialated.
1:00pm-I was abou 5cm
4:00pm - 6cm (I was dialating very slowly)
8:00pm - I vomited, had a fever, almost fainted and had high blood pressure. Dr. told me we have to do an emergency c-section.
9:00pm-Doctors and DH were talking about the Yankee-Met game that was going on while they were performing the c-section. DH was so into the conversation he didn't even hold my hand forgot that was I even there while I was shaking my a** off.
9:22pm-DS was born
10:00pm-DH comes to see me with a surprise look and tells me the baby weighed 9lbs 11oz 22 inches. I didn't believe him. DH was not joking because the doctor came and told me that he was surprised himself because he told me 4 days before that my baby would be about 8lbs.
The following day I held my baby and he looked like a 3 month old because he was big and had lots of hair. It was that happiest day of my life.
I was the only person that delivered at the hospital that day and it was a pretty quite week so I had a private room all to my self the whole entire 4 days.
