If you are going this weekend, it is supposed to be 55 so it will actually probably be hot. If not there are piano bars, jazz clubs, and of course all the yummy restaurants. Though I have to tell you, my husband and I last month on the most freezing day of the year took a horse and carriage ride through central park...OMG you have to do it. They will give you a very heavy blanket. It was so nice. one more recommendation...see whats going on at MSG

there are so many museums you can hit - Museum of Natural History, the Metropolitan Museum of Art (and the Cloisters), The Guggenheim, The Tenement Musuem, the Carnegie Mansion (86th street) had an exhibit this weekend (not sure if it's continuing)

Besides all the museums...I love the Central Park Zoo and walking around the park.

We'll be meeting another couple -
I think it would be great to hit a museum (not Nat history though, we just went.), then the Central Park Zoo...maybe some frozen hot chocolate at Serendipity
Not this weekend - maybe sometime next month.
Thanks

oh, what about Chelsea Piers, S.S. Seaport?
I haven't been there in 10 yrs, at least.
Are there relatively inexpensive tHings to do there?

Chelsea Piers has basketball hoops, golf driving range, mini golf, ice scating, roller blading, a spa to name a few ... you can buy a one day pass and go all day. The Chelsea Brewing Company is pretty good for a quick drink/bite to eat.

Have you been to the new Time Warner building?
Or if you go to Southstreet seaport and its a decent day; have coffee overlooking the water, or walk over the brooklyn bridge. Its actually really cool (when you're doing it for fun -- not because of blackouts or transit strikes!)

Most of my ideas were already posted above, other than hitting the Village & Chinatown for shopping, but thought I'd pass on this one:
Here's a good discount site for NYC: http://www.nycvisit.com/PaintTownSearch/index.cfm?pagePkey=1626
