Jaundice is very common... almost all babies get it... Alex had it when we came home from the hospital and we had to go to the pediatrician two days later because of it, but now she's fine. Like someone said, what helps is to put your little one in the sun and to feed as often as possible... it's gross, but the more he poops, the more it will go away!
Emily was jaundice in the hospital because we have different blood types and I was so scared by it. The doctor told us the worst possible circumstances and it really freaked me out . I was a wreck about it -- especially because she wasn the NICU under the photo lights and I couldn't have her in the room with me like all the other moms.
In the end it cleared up and she is perfectly fine now. It is so scary to hear that ANYTHING is wrong with your child -- but in the scheme of things Jaundice is really common and VERY treatable -- it's nice to know that the doctors deal with it ALL the time.
Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. Today's level was 16.9, so it is starting to come down. Frankie actually enjoys the therapy, it keeps him nice and warm under the lights. We are hanging in there and he will have more blood drawn again tomorrow. Thanks again girls.
