Situation-Opinions Needed
OK, it's my grandmother's B-Day today and her kids(my uncles & aunts) are taking her out to dinner. I really don't want to go & I have a lot of expenses I have to pay. I don't want to go to dinenr & be short on cash. Well my aunt just called to ask if I was going & I said no & explained why. Well, I could tell she was annoyed. I have no desire to go....would you $uck it up & go...or just go with your deciscion?

I wouldn't go if I didn't have the $.
You can buy her a gift or take her out with just your family, so you can still celebrate, but have control over how much money is spent.

I'd go. I don't know how often you see your grandmother, but mine is OOS, so every opportunity I get to see her is precious to me.
I'm just surprised that her kids aren't taking everyone out - I've never had to put in a dime at a family dinner.

Then you shouldn't bring money and when it's bill time, say "Oh - I thought you were taking us out"

I wasn't lucky enough to have my grandmother passed the age of 17. She died at 84 right before I went to college.
If it was me, it's my grandma, I'd find a way to go.

I wouldn't go. If her kids are taking her out to dinner then they should be treating everyone. Why are you then asked to split part of the bill. Plus if you aren't that close to her. What are her other grandkids doing?

If it were me, I woudl go see my grandmother alone with my family. Why do you have to be there at that particular dinner to wish her a happy birthday? Just go with DH and Marissa on your own to visit her.
