Thats the thing, I know for a fact it wasn't a screw up. A few small tea candles were included in place of the actual hurricane. Looked like a cover-up. lol

exactly. if she says that she will call the store or exchange it for you, tell her that you have a TON of errands to do and it is too much for her w/ the kids.

after "visiting the store" i would tell her that you were told that the hurricanes are sold as a set as stated on the box and tealights are not included. i would also follow w/ telling her that the salesperson said that they employ stock people to check all items prior to shelving/displaying THEN say that the salesperson actually had the nerve to say "someone" obviously replaced the 1 hurricane w/ candles.

i agree. thats what i would do, and really, it's not like you're accusing HER in that situation

i would be offended and upset as well.

why not casually mention that although you didn't notice when you orginally opened the box but there is only one hurricane candle. ask where she bought it because you would like to go back to the store and complain. tell her it is such a nice gift but it clearly states on the box that it is 2 candles and you are confused why there is only one.

OOOH!! That's a really good idea!! I would love to see the look on her face if you tell her that!

I was totally going to do that but I don't know if I have the nerve. If I get a little tipsy New Years maybe I will mention it then!!

And although i don't think i would be hurt by it, it would bother me. But your DH is right, there is nothing you can do about it

UNLESS you want to really embarrass her and call her asking for the receipt...there wasn't the other one in there..."HOW DARE THEY sell it like that"

u have so many responses I just kind of skimmed. I am sure mines not original but heres what I would do, I would call her and act stupid say " I wanted to call u bc i need to take the box u gave me back. They only gave me 1 hurricane lamp and it says 2." She probably wont admit it anyhow but at least she knows u r not stupid. I would also take it back to where she got it from anyhow and get a box with 2. This isnt your fault. Its how u got it whether she told u the truth or not.

Just work it into the conversation- just tell her you loved the gift, but when you opened it there was only 1 lamp and there were supposed to be two. Tell her you were planning on going to the store to exchange it for a non-defective one. See what she says.. Definitely keep us posted.
But be aware, that might embarass her.

my grandma got us a hurricane candle as well....on the box it says hurricane candle set....there is only one in there...I know she must have thought that by seeing the word set, that there were two in there...i thought the same....could this have happened to you as well???
