are hotdogs safe to eat?
just curious.. i think that they are okay, My freind asked me and i wasn't sure.

I heard they were a no-no...kinda like deli meats, but I think it also depends on your doc.

I was told that hotdogs must be cooked-- boiled only-- and they must be steaming hot to kill any bad bacteria that might be in them.

Listeria is a rare form of bacteria, that's not really found in North america very much.

Actually, I don't think listeria is the concern w/hot dogs...it's the nitrates.
That being said...I grilled Sabretts last night and they were delicious!

I agree, nitrates are the issue with cold cuts too, just wanted to comment on the listeria thing since the article link Kelly posted was about cold cuts.
I had some hebrew nationals grilled up over last weekend, boy did i enjoy them

I hope I didn't scare anyone...I just know I like to know all the facts...my doc said I read too much
It didn't stop me from a sandwich or two and a hotdog when I was preggo, but I did try to keep to a bare minimum...it also helped that I was OBSESSED with mashed potatoes and ate them as meals, I don't know what I would have done if I craved them...

My doc said they were fine in moderation. I eat them grilled a few times each pregnancy. Its the heartburn that makes me shy away from having them more often!
