New Life Rule
Do NOT allow your know it all MIL to come to your first new home the DAY after you move in. She will shoot down all your decorating ideas, tell you she hates the colors you have picked, will buy you endless things you didn't ask for so your DH thinks she is God, and you will feel isolated, alone and hate your new home.
I trust that all of you would not be as incredibly stupid as I was to allow this to happen. If my DH does not start to support me on how she is running my new home(arranging the furniture in a different way while I was at work) then I may have to leave him and let him live with his mom forever and ever.
Thanks for that vent veiled as a life lesson. I feel much better now.

I'm sorry you are having to deal with that! I'm lucky, my MIL is awesone, but my best friend's MIL did similar things when she was at her house for her wedding. My friend woke up in a cold sweat on her wedding night saying to herself "I have to divorce him or get this annulled - I can not be married into HER family!!!"  Her MIL was "helping" her get the house ready for everyone by buying new plants (that my friend didn't even want, with my friends money), and deciding that the light fixture in the kitchen needed to be moved, that they needed valances in the living room-amongst other things. She's a whacko. 
I hope you can get your DH to see what's going on and put a stop to it NOW!!!

Honestly, if my DH was supporting me I would be fine and just wait to decorate when she leaves. But he's not- when I tried to talk to him last night he said, I am sick of being both sides of this- Ummm... this is the first I mentioned it since I was trying to be patient so how many conversations have you had with HER about ME!
Instead of saying that though, I said, F that, I am your wife- you don't need to hear both sides at all. At that point he stormed at the room, moved the couch back where I had it just to be a jerk and show his mom that I was being a bit*h and we haven't spoken since. But on the way to bathroom, I saw him with his head in HER room having a nice chat about me. I am so angry at him, I can't even tell you.

I wish that stuff worked on him- he's just going to shut down and ignore me and then try to make nice later when he thinks I got over this. Luckily he goes away tonight for a week and I bringing my MIL to her other son's house tomorrow. I can't wait till Sunday. I am going to paint the whole house in every color I WANT!

Glad to know I am not alone. I really don't know what to do- he doesn't even see what she does as wrong or intrusive.
