constipation
What are your remedies for constipation (I've tried the whole thermometer thing) - and at what point do you use your methods (in other words how many days go by without a BM?) (she is 5 months old)
can I give her some watered down prune juice...if so what ratio water to juice?

Re: constipation
My doctor says 1 part prune juice, 3 parts water. I've used this trick plenty of times and it works like a charm! Just don't give to much at first...try about an ounce and a half to two ounces and wait a few hours. If she still doesn't do it, give her another ounce, etc. It's hard to judge when you should resort to giving them the prune juice, but, in my opinion, I'd rather just give it rather than see my baby be uncomfortable.

Re: constipation
Our doc said we could try 4oz of apple juice, prune juice, or pear juice a day mixed 1:1 with water. He said to split it over twice a day.
I also give Miranda M.O.M. she gets 1ml per kg of weight but you'd have to ask your ped about that. Our GI said it was OK but I don't want to do it all that often so that's when our ped said to try the juice before we try anything else med. wise. Miranda has poo issues that really bother her. She is a different baby the days she can't poop which are far too many for me.

Re: constipation
my ds is 6 weeks and I give him 2 oz of pear juice a day to keep him going every other day. I think the time period in between can be different for bf vs. bottle fed- ask your ped.

My dr said the same thing and this was when she was only 4 days old, we haven't had to do it yet....

Re: constipation
My daughter has had prune juice starting at 3 1/2 months. For us it was one oz of prune juice to 4 ounces of formula. What a yucky looking bottle. She went a few hours later but not as bad as I thought it would be.
