Dharma is going to the vet..... UPDATE
i feel so bad for my little munchkin.
a few months ago she started biting her thigh. it got all scaley and i thought perhaps it was dry skin... so i started applying more lotion to her..... and i also got The Missing Link food suppliment...
then it was fine for a while.
then she started again, but this time she started in other areas too, so i went to the pet supply store and they recommended this certain oil i apply to the affected area(s).
well, it worked! i was sooo happy, after a few days i saw a difference.
well, all of a sudden the other day it was back---- but like 10 times worse!
the poor thing hads scabs all over her ears, neck, and other afected areas on her tail, paw and thigh.
it happened SOOO fast. yesterday she was constantly itching or biting herself whenever i looked at her so i called the vet, but they werent there so i left a message. they called me today and the earliest htey have for her is Friday.
shes been alittle bit better today, but i still cant wait til they can see her.
i feel so bad for her, i think it MAY be a food allergy?????
msmbv... sound like a staff infection to you?
any other ideas what could be causing this???

Re: Dharma is going to the vet.....
Cooper, our springer spaniel was found to be allergic to all of the additives in the store bought dog food, so now he's on a non-allergenic natural dog food. He is doing 100% better but he doesn't love the food. The hardest part about it is that he can't have any commercial snacks, but he is allowed to have carrots - he loves them!
I hope they find that Dharma has something they can treat quickly and easily. I did tons of research on dog allergies so if you want any additional info, just ask.
Feel better Dharma!!!!!

Re: Dharma is going to the vet.....
My dog Rocky gets allergies all around his eyes and muzzle. He's allergic to carpet fresh! We even use the safe kind for pets, but it STILL makes him all red and itchy. It sounds like Dharma has allergies or maybe Mange?

Re: Dharma is going to the vet.....
UPDATE:
took her in. argh what a headache! it could be a million things. we have to do a trial and error with this.
he took a fungal sample, gave her some steroid shots.. sent me home with : cortizone spray, some ointment, pills, and a new food i have to test her on.
so yeah we're trying the food allergy approach right now.
the shot he gave her today is good for 10 days to help stop the itching, etc..... then we start a 12 week period of her on a new hypoallergenic food. no treats, nothing.
it could also be (short versions): flea or mosquito bite reaction, mange, mites, fungal infection, food allergy, ......
im going with allergy. he said she has a few symptoms of that and im pretty sure thats it. thats my gut feeling.

Re: Dharma is going to the vet..... UPDATE
OMG Jess I just saw this...I have not been n lately.
I am so sorry that Lady D is not feeling well. Did the vet rule out staph??? I would not be surprised if it is an allergy....Pyxie had been itching her neck & I thought it was because of her new collar, but the vet said she was allergic to the shampoo I was using on her mane. I switched & she is OK, but the vet did say that CCs are more prone to allergies b/c of their exposed skin.
I hope your littlr Diva Dog feels better soon.....give her many kisses from us and the puppies

Re: Dharma is going to the vet..... UPDATE
thanks. yeah thats how it originated.. hjer neck which i thought was from her collar as well.. he said she showed signs of a food allergy. irritated face and butt. so lets see. kevin used the spray on her yesterday and she hasnt been scratching really.... which is the hardest part for me, i cant bear to watch her cut herself open. i said something about staph and he didnt say anything.... i have a feeling he doesnt realize how common it is within the breed. i told him that they are prone to it and he ignored me. i didnt like this guy. its him and his brothers i believe and this ones a jerk. kevin went to him with saffy once and didnt like him at all either. he cuts you off and imo doesnt listen. im going to requst the other dr next time.
side note, should i cancel the meetup tomorrow as it is gay pride day???

Re: Dharma is going to the vet..... UPDATE
Yes the food is very expensive - Cooper has been eating it for almost six months - but it really helps!
Let me know if your dogs like the food - It took forever for Cooper to start eating it - he's still not that excited about it.
If you find the food any cheaper let me know.
Good luck with your doggies & the new food.

Maybe you could try seperating their food. My mom does that with her cats. She feeds them at a set time (no food left out) and the two cats that are on special foods eat their own food. Whatever doesn't get eaten right away goes back in the bag. Otherwise, she wouldn't be able to afford it either. Good luck to Lady Di!
