Well they want to keep it REALLY small ( basically just inviting the Aunts and uncles who always give VERY generous $$$ gifts.)
And in DH's family they have never heard of NOT giving a monetary gift for an Eparty! Her side I have no idea... but on DHs side everyone brings an envelope.
But honestly thats NOT why you have an Eparty!!! Thats like having a wedding for the gifts so you can buy a house  
They are doing it for the money.. thats called a FUNDRAISER!!!!! Call it what it is and don't give it the disguise name of an Eparty..

YES, that is why we didnt have an engagement party b/c we felt it was unfair to guest to have an engagement, shower and wedding all within 8 months. Its a HUGE expense for them, we wanted to be considerate to that.
Ditto!!! We didn't have one for that reason, too!

A shower and wedding... No..
but the e-party..hmmm...
See I didnt think alot of people had e-parties anymore unless they had a long engagemnt..so that might make me a little annoyed...
I felt bad because my e-party was in April 05..and my baby shower was in August 05... Our wedding wasnt supposed to be October06' and Im assuming my bridal shower wouldve been shortly before the wedding...(also in 06)
I felt that was ALOT within 2 years..for people, so when we decided to get married in July of this year...we kept it private, only close family really knows...
Sometime next year will make out cute announcements telling everyone..and I dont expect a thing!

I think thats kinda expected. All the engagement parties i Have ever gone to have been within the year (at least) of the wedding. I even went to an engagement party 3 months before the wedding. I think all these parties are silly. We really need to stop. But since I went to so many engagement parties and showers, and got so many people gifts- I wanted one too (petty, I know). I think that brides need to collectively stop all these parties- or at least with all the gifts.

Same with us! We got engaged April '04 then got married November '04. We thought it would be too much for our friends and family to have an engagement party. We did send out STDs since we got married on a holiday weekend. They went out about 6 months before the wedding so people would actually save the date! Many of our parent's friends and our family sent us engagement gifts at that time, but they would have done that regardless when they heard we were engaged. I think within a year is too much to ask of people.
