Was anyone else not a happy bride on their wedding day?

people say its the best day of your life- and i guess the day itself is significant because I married a wonderful man...but I did not have a good time doing it if that makes sense.

Um...for me it was mixed... I was thrilled I was getting married to DH, everything at the wedding & ceremony was PERFECT... however, both of my parent's are deceased, so it was also very bittersweet for me and my family.

I did not enjoy my wedding at all..i was soo stressed, i had issues with one of my vendors (really bad) and i felt like half the night, dh was spending time with his friends but i was so stressed all i wanted to do was hold his hand and leave.

i just hated the whole feeling of being a bride, pretending to be happy, and i spent a good time crying after everything was over.

Ditto that was me!! There was so much that happened with my dress and then me getting really sick just 3 months before and putting on uncontrolable weight due to the medical issue, then my Grandmother and 3 others dying within months of my wedding. Then the drama between my Mom and Dad.

Yup. Never want to do that again.

Me. First off, I was completely stressed for months leading up to the wedding between the wedding plans and my father was going through chemotherapy and radiation treatments. I had completely stopped going to the gym so I gained a ton of weight and hardly fit into my gown. Then the day of the wedding, it rained all day. So no, I was not a happy bride!

My favorite part was being married the the most amazing guy on the face of the earth...

other than that...The DJ sucked, my DOC was useless, I was completely exhausted, my dress was altered wrong so my sleeve kept dropping and my boobs kept popping out.

Needless to say...No...it was NOT the best day of my life either.

Re: Was anyone else not a happy bride on their wedding day?

I was VERY happy on my wedding day- I really made it a point to enjoy myself. But I do know that mixed feeling you're talking about. I completely had that last week at my baby shower. I should have been thrilled that a party was thrown for me and that iI got such great stuff for the baby- but really I was stressed all day since noone had helped plan the shower and I wound up doing EVERYTHING myself. The only thing I didn't do was pay. My parents were kind enough to do that. Chat Icon

I was a happy bride for the last 1.5 hours of my wedding.
Not to say, i was unhappy during the rest of it - but I am a perfectionist and I get stressed easily...so I spent alot of the day really wound up and not able to enjoy myself like I would have liked to in retrospect. I think I would have been good if I had a xanax and a few glasses of wine that day! But, that last hour and a half, I finally let loose!

Re: Was anyone else not a happy bride on their wedding day?

Yeah, it blew....

There was drama with my attention wh*re SIL's (both of them). One was trying to make everything about HER and the other was trying to undermine everything possible. Between the two, no one could keep up with their b.s. behavior and comments.

Then there was the last minute overhaul the caterers decided to do to the hall. Two days before, the main corridor was guttedChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Had a total meltdown in the place and they assured me it would be fixed (it was, but not to my satisfaction).

The DJ screwed us out of stuff that was supposed to be in the package.

Both my Mom and my Dad came down with the flu and wanted to leave SUPER early (like before dinner). My other SIL had a gallstone attack and left early.

One of husband's "friends" who we had set up with accomodations, etc. had RSVP'd that she was coming with a guest and never showed. We were out her dinners and her room (and the stuff we left her). She had the nerve to send us a $25.00 Spencer's G/C after the wedding!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I swear the Brady Tikki was hidden somewhere in the catering hall!!

We did have alot of fun with our friends but with the stress/drama surrounding the day, I would have preferred something a little more intimate...like just him and meChat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Was anyone else not a happy bride on their wedding day?

I was not stressed but everyone else was. I was an hour late for pics and the ceremony started a half hour late due to my tardiness. Screw them...it was my day and they could not start without me anyways. I blame the man at Dunkin Donuts for making me late...like he never saw someone in a wedding gown before. pfffft

I had the bridesmaid from hell. FM me if you didn't get to read the story on LIW.

My memories of the day are primarily of her acting like an animal.

Re: Was anyone else not a happy bride on their wedding day?

You know I'm with you. I was glad the day was over - too much stress and all the hard work and things didn't exactly go as planned. I never bought into the whole "its the best day of your life" - it was specialy b/c I married DH and was surrounded by friends and family - but it was not the "perfect day" and while I'm having fun looking at my pics and the video - I was glad when it ended and I wish I made some different decisions.

Not that I was unhappy, but I really didn't want a wedding. All along I wanted to elope, but the moms made a big stink and since our parents paid for the whole thing I went along with it. I planned everything and made it as low key as possible on LI, but the whole wedding thing just isn't me. Would have rather just taken our immediate families to a fantastic restaurant, go away with DH for 2 weeks and kept all the money in the bank.

This was me as well. I really missed having my parents involved. I was thrilled that I was marrying my wonderful DH, but really would have preferred a small immediate family celebration.

Pre ceremony I was miserable. Once the ceremony started, the day really was incredible.

I was the same way. The days leading up to the wedding were miserable. Our actual wedding day was fantastic. We had a blast and ignored anyone who did not want to have a great time!

Re: Was anyone else not a happy bride on their wedding day?

There was so much that went wrong on my wedding day, (including a vendor being a now show with no explanation!) but I was cloud nine the entire day, nothing got to me. We had the best time and it truly was the best day of my life!

It was AFTER the wedding, I wasn't such a happy bride, after things settled down and I was able to give more thought to the mishaps of the day.
