Re: Ten years ago...

ten years ago i was entering my sr year in h.s. and dating a guy and in my first serious relationship.
i was 16 and knew NOTHING about the world. my plan was to go to college, get my master's degree, get married at age 25 and have kids at age 30. I also wanted to make 6 figures by the time i was 25.

well, i am a year off, but i did everything i wanted...hopefully around the age of 30, i will have a child..

Re: Ten years ago...

Ten years ago, I saw myself as being single, playing in an orchestra somewhere in the world and with my PhD.
Far cry from what I am doing. I'm teaching music now, which was something I was dead-set against as a teenager, but LOVE now, I'm married, have a baby and live like 5 miles from where I was born. Go figure. I'm a lot happier than I ever envisioned I'd be, though.

Re: Ten years ago...

i was just starting my senior year of college and I thought that by the time I was 31 I would be married to my college boyfriend for about 7 years already and have 2 or 3 kids already. And be a stay at home mom.

In reality we broke up 2 months after college ended and I am just getting married now - next month actually!!! So different than what I anticipated but I wouldnt change a thing. My 20's were a lot of fun!!!

I was 14 ten years ago. My best friend was dying of cancer, it was the hardest summer of my lifeChat Icon

I thought about the future all of the time, but couldn't see it. I thought about the things Rachel wouldn't see or do.

I had big time survivor's guilt.

I would have never thought that I would be so settled though, always thought I'd be an actress or a singer or famous (man was I starried eyed!) but I wouldn't trade my life for anything.

10 years ago I had just graduated from High school. I thought I would be married (done that) with kids (don't have that) and a house (don't have that either) by now.
I never would have thought I would be in the career I am in now, or the one I was in before this one!
I have done a lot of growing up in the past 10 years...

Ten years ago I was 21 still in college earning my B.S. degree. Thought I'd continue on for my Master's and become a guidance counselor. Thought I'd be married (I am), In a house (I am) and have at least 2 children by now. Never planned on getting sick 2 years ago and have my life change a little bit. Everything all worked out though.
Got engaged at 23, Married at 24 and now at 31 having my first child.Chat Icon

10 years ago I was dating who is now my husband but if you asked me then if we were going to get married I would have said H E L L NO! I also never thought that I would have been living back on Long Island and be as "grown up" and settled as I am.

10 years ago I was going into my sophomore year at UAlbany and the furthest I looked in the future, was what bar/party I was going to that night . ..

hey-- 10 years ago I was at Albany too-- going into Senior year though.

Honestly- I guess I thought I would be where I am now. Recently married, having a good job and looking towards the future.

It's interesting cause 5 years ago I would have thought differently, based on how my life was turning out-- but, definitely when I was 21, 31 seemed a very long ways off!

Re: Ten years ago...

10 years ago, I was 18. I was planning to be a ballerina and not very interested in college. I was not thinking about marriage or anything else beyond ballet. I was living in Virginia for a time and training with Richmond Ballet.

Now, it's all different. Ballet didn't work out for me...I really never had the ideal body type and eating became a huge issue for me. I decided to attend college, study journalism and just dance for pleasure....make it how it used to be when I was younger. I'm happy at how life has turned out. A young, married editor! Who has no clue if she wants children. That never changed!

10 years ago I was just out of college, in a job I liked but didn't plan to stay in as I wanted to be in sales. I anticipated being married, owning a house and having at least 1 child by now.

Now I am in a sales job, married and we own a house, we just started TTC this month so I'm only a little behind.

10 years ago I was 21 and half way through college. 31 seemed so far away.

But I guess I would have thought I'd be married, owned a house and had 2 kids by now.

Reality: I just got married, no house and no kids.

This month 10 years ago I was just out of an engagement (to a guy with the same name as my husband). I was in the same job I had been in for 9 years and I was just about to start college at night.

Three years later I had my degree and made my move to the USChat Icon

Ten years ago, I was 16 and though I was going to marry my high school sweetheart. Funny how naive we are when we are young. Thought I would have a masters or professional degree by 26, which I don't. Didn't think I would be working in marketing or married.

10 years ago I was 19 and a sophmore in college. I thought I would be in radio somewhere in the country, didnt know if I would be married or not. I wasnt sure about kids at that point either. I never realized just how hard life is.

Too bad I am not in radio - at least one good thing happened when I met DH.

Great thread - it scary to think how time flies. Chat Icon
