I've thought about it and ultimately I let DH make the decision.
He thought about it, did some research and he decided that he would like his son to be.

I was taught in nursing school if the father of the baby is then you should circumsize that baby so he won't look different from his dad.

Re: How is everyone deciding whether or not to have their son circumcised?

DH and I discussed this issue in depth before we had children. He is from Argentina and is not circumcised. I was comfortable with whatever decision he made. He decided against it. I believe the US is one of the few countries that circumcise as a routine procedure. In the past, they thought it was cleaner, helped prevent penile cancer and reduced the chance of UTIs. However, modern medicine has said that these reasons may have been overstated and there isn't enough medical fact to support automatic circumcison. There are a lot of websites out there with info on circumcisions if you are contemplating not doing it, research the issue and see what you think.

When the time actually came for our son, the decision wasn't ours. He was born in Ireland and they do not circumcise there. When we asked if we wanted it done, could they do it? They told us if we wanted it done, we would have to bring him to a surgeon and he would have to go under anasthesia (sp?). Since we originally didn't want to do the circumcison anyway we left him as is.

Although DH is circumcised, he decided not to have our son circumcised. He did the research and felt since there was no serious medical reason to do it then why put DS through the procedure.

This was the only thing he felt so strongly about during my pg. I didn't really challenge him bc the only argument I had was "it just looks better."

I live in the UK where most men aren't circumcised, but as i am jewish and my husband isn't i felt that our son was going to be jewish so he had to be circumcised. this was the reason that we wanted to find out the gender of the baby at our 20 week scan. We then had plenty of time to talk about it and decide what to do. We had a bris for Noah and i felt very proud to carry on the traditions of my culture.

We go to baby massage and that is done with the babies naked and my boy is always the only one there sans foreskin!

I mostly did it because DH is, but in the back of my head I worried about DS having to have it done when he was an adult for a medical reason (which is more common than you would think) so we definately did it when he was born (they say newborns have like a 2 second memory).

It is common to have to have it done later in life but sometimes even if they are circumcised they have to have it done again too. My bf's husband had to be recircumcised at 13 and their son had to be redone at 2 because his skin reattached itself and his penis was crooked Chat Icon

Us too.
We already have a son & he is,right now we're TTC & if it were a boy,he'd be like his brother.

We have discussed this many times,DH is the one that made the decision,I support it..I figure- he'd know best about these issues,he haves a penis,I don'tChat Icon .

Just a side story,my nephew- now 12 had to have one at 3 yrs old,he is STILL traumatized to this day.

My Dh isn't, so we probably won't circumcise if we have a son. There's really no medical need for it.

not pregnant-but if we have a son he won't be. DH is not and really don't see any reason for it to be done.

Also, deferred to DH. He is and he'd like for the baby to be. I don't see any reason to argue. I think the argument that the son will want to be like his father seems to make sense to for when they start to get older and notice.

i'm not a parent, but i'd leave the decision to dh
and since dh is i'm sure he'd want his son to be.
