All opinions needed please - updated with pics
For those of you who know the situation please help. DH and I are so torn with our next steps for Molly. What would you do? And let me just say that if we do take legal action we are not looking to make a quick buck but we are more worried about doctor bills that may come in the future god forbid any complications.
ETA: The doctor that did this to her was not one of the doctors at EM Animal Hospital but someone brought in on a per diem basis to perform surgeries once in a while. Image Attachment(s):

I wouldn't take her back to them as I would have no confidence in them going forward.

Re: All opinions needed please
I say take legal actions. I would NEVER trust this vet and that clinic ever again after the incident and I would never just let it go when they almost killed the pup!
Good luck on whatever you and your DH decide to do!

I don't know if I would sue, but you can be sure I would tell EVERYONE I knew with an animal about my bad experience there.

Re: All opinions needed please
I'd take her to a new vet, and see if they can find fault with how the 1st vet handled things (aside from that nasty comment they made to you). If the new one thinks the 1st was negligent, I'd sue the pants off of #1.

Re: All opinions needed please
There is no way that I would take her back to that vet. Regardless of the fact that this vet isn't on staff they still hired him on an as needed basis. I wouldn't have any trust in their judgement.
I would take her someplace else and consider legal action.

Re: All opinions needed please
I would switch vets and move on. Molly's health is more important that a few hundred dollars and I would never bring her back to the vet that hurt her to begin with. You could refuse to pay and see how far you can go with that, maybe even if you just get the bills reduced. but I would definately find another vet.
You could bring her ASAP so that you could hopefully prevent any future problems.

Re: All opinions needed please
Thanks! I have been calling the other vets in the area and talking to the doctors. I am trying to use my judgement and see which is the best for her.
We will 99% not bring her back to EM but DH thought that maybe they would take extra special care of her in the future now.

They should have taken extra special care of her to begin with.

I'd be worried that they would think I'm a pushover and not be as careful as they should be. Not that they wouldn't do right by her, but that if they made another mistake they wouldn't own up to it or something. I think if you went to a new vet and they knew why you switched they'd know that you are on top of your pet's health and very involved. Does that make sense?

Re: All opinions needed please
I wouldn't take her back to that specific vet no matter what - so free care from the vet wouldn't be an option. Free care from the animal hospital - if they agreed - would require something in writing or they could back out on the agreement. I would think Molly would be the last person to get an appointment though.
Suing them is an option. From my experience, legal action is a long, emotional drawn out process with all of the parties feeling screwed either by each other or their attorneys. I would threaten suit but settle with them.

exactly! all surgery has risks, but this isn't a situation where Molly had a bad reaction to something, but rather a board certified vet made an almost fatal mistake! I am just so glad that Molly is going to be OK.

Diana, where are you located? I have an amazing dr. in queens, but that may be too far for you. they helped my sister when her cat had problems due to neglegance on the vet's part during a neutering operation.

Re: All opinions needed please
We live in Seaford. Ideally I would like a vet that is 10-15 mins away but we are now considering going a little further if we find someone we love.
Everyone on here gave me some great vets to call and I have been talking to their offices and waiting for the doctors to call me back.

Re: All opinions needed please - updated with pics
Diana, I would NOT use the same vet again. I had issues with a vet I took Ebony to in Valley Stream. I will never go back there again.
You need to feel comfortable and confident with the care your baby is getting, no matter what the cost. I would move on, find a vet you admire and respect, and independently sue this vet's office -- not the person as the offic eis responsible, and has insurance to pay for these things.
Good luck!!

Aww Molly looks so cute!!! So happy she is feeling like herself!
You should not even think about taking her back there, not for a second!!!!!
And I think you should definetly talk to a lawyer. They were so wrong and should suffer just like you, James and poor Molly did!
ETA: Lola saw the pictures and is jealous that molly isn't wearing a cone, she wants to know why she has to!

Did they come out and say "were sorry but we messed up?" did they ask for payment when you picked her up from the vet? Why did this happen did they explain it in detail?

They did not ask for payment and they are paying for the overnight hospital bill. What happened was that they nicked the right urethra and since she did that they had no choice but to take out the right kidney. She did the right thing by taking out the kidney once the urethra was damaged but it is NOT common at all to damage the urethra in this routine spaying.
No - they didn't come out and say sorry. They kind of made it like it was not that big of a deal.
Any other vet I call and tell the story to is shocked that it happened.

There are plenty of great, reliable vets out there so I would switch vets and find a lawyer.
I am so glad that Molly is okay
