Re: Do you think the US should allow same-sex couples to get married?
wow too many pages to read got up to 8 and I guess Im gonna get bashed for this but
No, I dont think they should.
I have a cousin who is gay and although I know he "loves" his partner, I just dont think its right to say they are "married" or get married.
I'm not ready for that change I guess. I know "they" were born like this so they say but what about those who are bisexual or just want to try it out, or its in style.
Marriage is between a man and a woman, you cannot procreate with the same sex, marriage was based on the union of a man and woman and to continue the race. Thats my view. Thats what was Gods way, whether you believe in God or not, we were put on this earth to be united Man and Woman.
Its technologoy and this century that has changed things in how we can procreate, I understand that, but I am not up for seeing a gay couple so openly in public and I think this will justify that. For those who are religious you cant blame us for our views.
Ok I am going to explain since it is so confusing------
Its technology and this century that has changed how we can procreate, yes I understand that, in case someone says same sex couples ( woman) can still procreate, yes, but my beliefs are that for marriage it was meant to be a man and woman to procreate our race when we were put on this earth, back in the day there was No sex before marriage , marriage is what brought the union of the man and the woman together and to make family ( procreate).
but I am not up for seeing a gay couple so openly in public and I think this--- same sex marriages---- will justify that.

I think it should completely be allowed and it actually saddens me greatly that it isn't.

Are you saying a marriage is not truly a marriage unless you procreate? You say that's god's way but if we are all created in his image then why are homosexuals considered "less human"? Homosexuals don't make the choice to be attracted to the same sex just like we don't make a choice to be attracted to the opposite sex.
As far as God's way, there are plently of Christian sects, as I am sure there are other religious sects, that don't believe there is anything wrong with this lifestyle. There are a tremendous amount of very religious homosexuals that believe in "God". Are you implying their religion is not as good as yours?
Edit due to misinterpretation and my poor choice of words.

I must say that I am truly offended by your statement in regards to technology this century and how we procreate. Are you not seeking treatment to help get pregnant? What makes your plight any more important then anyone else's, regardless of sexual orientation?
i am not offended but i agree with the above...
just not getting the procreate or technology theories

I am not even going to rebut you. I didnt rebut or quote anything that anyone said either. I read all of your comments and posted how I felt, you dont like it, oh well, not everyone is going to agree about things and I dont have to justify anymore than I did on how or why I feel this way. Plain and simple NO I dont think they should and I explained myself in my original post.

Re: Do you think the US should allow same-sex couples to get married?
As someone who had difficulty getting pregnant, your statement offended me greatly. I benefited from this century's technology as many others have and many more will. Your statement, in the way I read it, implied that I should not be pregnant right now because of the intervention I had.
You are certainly entitled to your own opinions and beliefs. I think you should stand up for them and stand behind them.

I wasn't trying to embarass her at all. She has been open about certain things, as have I, and didn't mean it as a personal attack.
I do believe that a lot of women struggling with infertlity issues may see her statement as offensive.

No thats not why I dont believe in it, and what I meant by technology is that a gay couple "woman" can get PG without physically being with a man that technology has advanced that they can still have children. I wasnt bashing it.
I dont believe in it, b/c its how I was raised and on my catholic views, I went to catholic school in the 70's and I still institute a lot of the values I was taught, not all but that is one of them. If it happens it happens but if we are asking if we think it should be allowed Im just saying I dont think so.
I never said they are less human, I dont feel my gay cousin is less human. I also think that if you are born that way a chromosome was off somewhere, no I dont think it was intended to be this way.

If you take the arguement that being gay is an anamoly in nature, than what should we do with them? How should they live their lives in a society where the only way you can have certain rights under the state laws is to marry? Is that fair?

Thanks, I will clarify what I meant thats what happens when you type fast or try to get your thoughts on paper without proofreading it, I meant that we were put on this earth as man and woman to procreate. without 1 of the 2 we cant continue the race. thats what I meant. and that with gay couples if thats what we started with, we'd be extinct.
edited to say the union of marriage at least back in the day and some still practice it today, no sex till marriage = union of a man and a woman

Re: Do you think the US should allow same-sex couples to get married?
My interpretation of your statement was that the technology of the 20th and 21st century has made procreation possible in a way that is should not be. Since I benefited from a 20th century technology drug, I should not be pregnant.
I understand, that was not your intention but that was the way I read it.
I honestly am not trying to upset you at all nor was I trying to offend you. I apologize if I embarrassed you or upset you. That was not my intention.

Re: Do you think the US should allow same-sex couples to get married?
I did not read all 11 pages of this thread but regarding the original question, I absolutely think the US should allow same sex marriage.
One of my (step) sisters is gay and she dated a close friend of mine for 6 years for the first example.
My cousin that passed away in June (from cancer) was gay.
Ive grown up with these 2 people and seen them both in loving fufilling relationships. IMO gender has nothing to do with it. Its all about respect and love.

Don, Sonia ... what is your definition of marriage? I'm just curious because I never really thought about the "definition" of marriage before.
As for me, I am 100% for legally joining together - use whatever phrase you want - commitment, marriage, etc ...
Marriage is the union of two people. To me marriage is one of the fundamenatl structures in our society. I don't feel the tern "marriage" or a married cople should be applied when it comes to same sex marriages. I too like Don, feel that I associate marriage w/ relion and the biblical sense of the word.

Yes, I do think that same-sex couples should be allowed to marry. They deserve the same rights and happiness as heterosexual couples.

I read and re-read these posts and I'm not sure I understand what you meant... I understand that you said you don't feel it's right that technology helps same-sex couples have children...right? OK that part I understand.
But what I'm confused with, or I guess what I am just curious about now, is this: Do you think that it's wrong for technology to help married couple (man & woman) get pregnant?

No I didnt say that, what I am saying about technology is that same sex couple meaning woman CAN procreate b/c of technology and I understand that, BUT I still believe a marriage is the union of a man and a woman to procreate, that that is what God intended when he made Adam and Eve.
