Deb,

You saw that picture...that could be me. No, that IS me... I'm not kidding!!

I would KILL to have hair like yours. I have the course, curly hair in that picture and blow it with a prayer hoping it doesn't frizz before I leave the salon. I have a standing appointment every Saturday at a Brentwood salon. I have to go there because only the Dominican girls seem to know how to deal with this hair. If I don't go, they call mey house, that's how often I go.

Aw, thanks but really my hair isnt that great. I guess cause it the in between curly, wavy and then really curly and If I dont put a pound of gel/mouse/spray gel well, its not pretty.

I have to admit that Im lazy and any less doing I have to do in the morning, especially blow drying my hair for 20min or so when i could be sleeping works for me.
Plus, I like my hair straight, I feel better when it is.

The way you described your hair sounds just like mine before I got the JS. Did you see my before pics? It was more wavy/frizzy than curly.

You can wash it tomorrow but just when you do don't scrub your scalp too much you don't want too irritate it before it gets chemicals put near it.

I took a shower and washed it the morning of just because I knew it would be awhile before I could do it again.

Has anyone gotten it done with shorter hair? My hair is just about shoulder length. I would love to get it done, but I feel like with shorter hair it would look too flat and not good at all.

Re: Japanese Hair Straightening Official Thread

Okay, I just got back from Top Point. THANK YOU to all the ladies that recommended the place, and especially to beth, jessica and regi for answering my annoying fms.

My hair is so straight! I am so happy with the way it turned out. And my friend Amy (who I am sure will post soon lol) looks amazing as well. THey charged me 210, and with that cut a little off the bottom. I will post pics later.

We arrived at 9 and left by 230. I think we would have been out of there earlier but it got CRAZY busy. I am so glad we went during the week and not on the weekend because I am sure it is even more of a madhouse.

Maggie did my hair and Annie was the assistant. They were both awesome. I am so happy I did this! And I met another LIF girl while there Chat Icon.

Thanks again for the recs and now anyone who wants can bother me with questions!

It's cheaper when it's shorter!

My mom's hair is short (graces her shoulders) and has her hair JS.

ETA: pic of my mom...by the way she has super curly, kinky, and DRY azz hair.

Re: Japanese Hair Straightening Official Thread

I made it to 7 months without having to get my JHS redone. This time I went to Top Point, last time I went to Hair Village so now I can compare the two. Here are my findings (good and bad):

Top Point vs Hair Village

Top Point:

1 - more expensive
2 - better service, friendlier staff
3 - less busy/crowded (but I went on a Tuesday)
4 - nicer salon in general
5 - somewhat easier to get to by car
6 - parking is a crapshoot
7 - don't seem as experienced/knowledgeable with JHS
8 - products used seem to be gentler on the hair
9 - they work slower

Hair Village:

1 - crazy and hectic (Saturday)
2 - JHS factory - they crank out JHS's by the minute - so they have lots of experience under their belts
3 - staff not quite as friendly
4 - loooong wait times (again it was a Saturday)
5 - parking is a crapshoot
6 - somewhat harder to find
7 - less expensive
8 - have to blow dry your own hair
9 - can wield a straightening iron like nobody's business (esp compared to TP)

To summarize - you walk into HV and they touch your hair and instantly know what product, how much to use, and for how long. Basically, they know their sh*t. With TP, they were a little less confident, I could tell and there was alot of debate as to how long to leave the chemicals in -etc.

TP was less skilled with the iron, IMO. At HV almost half of your overall time is spent waiting. At TP, all of the time is spent on your hair. Yet both places took approx. 7 hrs on my (very long) hair.

At the end - HV did a better job on me. Considering I had only about 4 - 6 inches of growth, I expected it to take alot less time but they work alot slower. I am happy with it, they did a good job, but I can feel a little wave near my roots and that was not the case at HV. Tracy even said that she should have left the chemicals in longer. She also said my hair was very healthy.

Bottom line - next time, I'm going back to HV. But I will take the train and go on a Tuesday and maybe I won't have to blow dry my own hair. Chat Icon

Re: Japanese Hair Straightening Official Thread

Wow, thanks for the comparison, Sandra! You make me want to GET ON THE BALL! I've been saying I'm going to do JHS for about a year now... why am I procrastinating!??? Ugh...I don't want to miss my curls! But what sux bolas, too, is that since giving birth, my hair has been falling out in CLUMPS! Did you have the same, and has it improved with/without JHS?

Chat Icon I should just do it! I can only imagine that it's made your daily routine soooooooo much easier, huh? I would LOVE to just shower and GO!
