Mother-In-Laws
I noticed that many of you have problems with your MIL or do not get along too well....or do not speak to them....or in the opposite...have great relations with them..... I'm wondering what's the consensus out there.....Please take the poll !!!

Re: Mother-In-Laws
We used to have a pretty decent relationship but through the years I have come to know the real her. I am now setting boundaries between us & it's honestly in my case better this way.

Re: Mother-In-Laws
I think everyone on LIF knows my stories well enough to know what I voted for.
Ever since our little "talk" and my letter, things have been better.

Re: Mother-In-Laws
Overall, my MIL and I have a very good relationship. We love and respect each other. Her boyfriend on the other hand is the cause of many, if not all, gripes.

Re: Mother-In-Laws
She's 75, so sometimes I see her more as a grandmother than mother-in-law. But we have a great relationship. I'm very lucky.

Re: Mother-In-Laws
I really like my MIL, but we don't have any sort of relationship I guess. They live in FL and we maybe see them 2 or 3 times a year. DH speaks to them all the time on the phone, but I don't unless they have a specific question for me or I have one for them. When they are around...we get along fine.

I like my MIL, she is a really nice lady! I think everyone has rocky times with their IL's, but I can honestly say that I really care alot about my MIL.

Re: Mother-In-Laws
For the most part, I think I'm lucky. We get a long very well, but she can be a royal pain in the azz. She "runs" the family and we don't always see eye to eye, but I keep my mouth shut and pick my battles wisely!

Re: Mother-In-Laws
My MIL is great, but she lives in another country and we have a slight language barrier.
I voted that we get along well but are not particularly close because I have only seen her about 15 times. However, when we are together, we get close. Last time I saw her I was at her house for 10 days without my DH.
She has confided in me a lot about her life and her marriage, things she doesn't even tell her children. Last time I spoke with her she thanked me for being so good to her son and how I always think of her and her family. She is a wonderful mother in law. I just wished she lived closer.

Re: Mother-In-Laws
The truth, i'm greatful she lives in FL. Basically we're just courteous to each other, but I really cannot stand her and disagree with many of the choices shes made, but thats another long complicated, sensitive story i'm not getting into...

Re: Mother-In-Laws
My MIL and I are courteous to eachother but she has no respect for me and my feelings so I am respectful to her for my husb and not because I want to be.
She treats all the DIL's like crap. It is not just me. She is a mean lady that has no need for anyone but her sons.
BYE BYE MIL... I am going to Georgia

Re: Mother-In-Laws
My mother-in-law passed away several years ago. Even before we were married, we had a very rocky relationship and I sometimes try to imagine what our relationship would be like now that her son and I are married. I figure it would be even rockier, though DH disagrees. She and I made our peace before she died though and I know she loved me and I believe she knew I was going to be her son's wife (she died before we were even engaged) and I believe she was happy with the idea of me as his wife. My husband is an only child and his mom was extremely doting and I think she just had a hard time initially with him having "another woman" in his life. And the fact that he spent every hour of the day with me probably just aggravated her.

Re: Mother-In-Laws
My MIL is a dear sweet woman who continually gets under my skin and on my nerves. When we talk, it's like she's not even listening and only responds with easy comments - like she couldn't bother getting too involved in the conversation. Sometimes I wonder why I keep her involved in our lives
