5 months and we didn't swaddle DD for the first time last night
well it wasn't too bad actually. i put her to sleep in a sleep sack and rocked her then i put her in her crib at 9:30. she slept great till about 3AM and woke up, put after 10 mins she fell back asleep. then at 5AM we let her cry for 5 mins then gave her her binky and she went back to sleep. so it is now almost 7AM and shes still sleeping. she usually sleeps till 7/7:30.
the one thing i did notice when i was watching her on the monitor was she kicked her feet/legs a lot more, but barely moved her arms even though they were free. i'm thinking i might swaddle her in the swaddleme tonight but leave her arms out since it seems like the legs caused her the most disturbance. what do you ladies think?

She did really well! I was terrified of getting rid of the swaddle, but we did it at 5 months, as well. Since she already made it through one night w/o the swaddle, I would keep going, rather than put her back. She'll get used to it.
Of course, if some uninterrupted sleep for everyone is more important right now, and you think swaddling arms-out will help, then give it a shot.

I will be swaddling her until she is 12 years old! She doesn't sleep at all without it. It's a nightmare. To me, if it means she sleeps and I sleep- she can stay in that darn thing until she goes to college!

she did really well! Keep with the sleep sack, she'll get used to it in a few nights.

DS is 4 months and this gives me hope because I think we are going to start trying this soon before he starts rolling over.

this is part of the reason we started it now, i'd rather do it now before DD is able to roll over. This way if she didn't do well going cold turkey i would have time to ween her and do 1 arm out for a few nights, then both arms, and then no swaddle. whats really funny is this morning when we were playing she rolled from tummy to back and then back to tummy!!

Re: 5 months and we didn't swaddle DD for the first time last night
All babies are different!
DS was like high on swaddle, he loved it. I only took him out of it, when he really started to move forceful and with intent. I was afraid he'd hurt himself trying to break out of the swaddle in the mornings.
He loved to sleep in the swaddle, if he loved to wake in one, he'd probably be napping with the swaddle at 10m.
