The "books" say 6 months, but we started our own version around 4-5 months. It wasn't full CIO, but we were able to tell his cries apart by that point. I knew when he would die down and go to bed, and I knew when he wasn't going to givce in and we'd go get him. Do what you're comfortable with.

I dont think so. We started when DS was abbout 4-5 mos. We started it only with naps. Then progressed to bedtime. Right now, we only need to CIO at naps-and it's not all the time.

You might not even have to really do cio.

Around 5 mo, I would put ds in his crib when I knew he was tired. I expected him to scream but he went to sleep in less than 5 min.

Try to put him/her down when tired & see how it goes
