6 month appointment and a little worried
took db for 6 month well child visit. for the second month in a row, she barely gained any weight. at 6.5 months, she is 26 inches and weighs 15'6. ped is mildly concerned. she was in 50-75% for the first few months, now down to 25%. its not so much how much she weighs, but the weight gain. db is BF, we started food 3 weeks ago, and she dropped a bottle then. right now, i BF AM and PM, and she gets 2 bottles while i'm gone, BM, 6.5 ounces each. plus solids twice a day. ped did say if it continues another month, he may run some blood tests.

Re: 6 month appointment and a little worried
Sorry to hear this.
How much food is DC eating? How much cereal, fruits, etc?
You say you've been giving solids for 3 mos, have you been increasing his/her intake in that time?

Re: 6 month appointment and a little worried
The SAME thing happened to us and I was SO upset
At DS' 5 month appointment he was down to the 10% percentile, he was always in the 50% before that and my doctor freaked us out.
When we went back at 8 months, he was back up to the 50% and we did nothing different, I think that we just happened to go to the doctor right before a growth spurt

Re: 6 month appointment and a little worried
I'm surprised she gave up a bottle as soon as you started solids. I was told my dd needs just as much bm for the first 5 weeks of solids. If the doc was really worried they'd probably have you return for extra weight checks.

Re: 6 month appointment and a little worried
How much did he gain or nothing? Maybe I missed that?
HE weighs more then my son did at that visit and they said nothing to us.
At 7 months 2 weeks he was just 16 lbs.

Reading this reminded me, when I was starting DS on solids, I asked the nurse 1001 questions, one being when do we cut back on formula, she said not to. If he starts taking less formula/BM, then cut back on cereal. She said babies get their most nutrients from formula/BM.

Re: 6 month appointment and a little worried
The cereal should not be replacing any formula (or in your case BM)

she put on 4 ounces in 4 weeks. also, although she dropped a bottle, the bottles she did take went up in amount.

Re: 6 month appointment and a little worried
Same thing happened at my DD's 6 month appt. i think she gained like 2oz.'s and i was worried. My Ped was not concerned at all as long as everything else was ok and she at least gained something. DD was also BF'd and ped said that not all babies are going to be big or gain a lot especially some BF babies. she also said that since DH and i are not big people that DD might just have a slender build, etc... DD is 8 months is still small but gaining and is thankfully totally healthy! i am sure she is fine!
