My Christmas baby- Mia Marie 12/24/10
I wasnt even going to do a birth story but since I had a very successful induction, I wanted to share for those of you who have to have or are considering induction and are nervous.
I developed hypertension during the pregnancy, thus the reason for induction. I went to LIJ for my weekly growth sono on 12/23 and my BP was high (160/90) They sent me to L&D. (This was actually my 2nd time that week being sent to L&D for possible induction. The first time was on Mon 12/20, which was actually my b-day but I got sent home b/c my BP stabilized)
The other Dr in my practice was on call that day so she decided enough was enough and it was finally time to induce. At 8pm, they inserted 1/4 of a cytotec pill. By 8:30 my water broke. That was the ONLY drug I needed for induction. After my water broke, I went into labor on my own.
Id say around 11 pm, I was 4 cm ( I had started out at 1) They took me to a delivery room and I asked for an epidural. Well apparently, one of my blood works showed slow clotting time. This truly baffled me since I was having blood drawn CONSTANTLY and this never came up before. When the anesthesologist came in, he asked me if my gums bleed when I brush. So I answered honestly and told him they did. He was VERY HESITANT to give me the epidural and that in turn made me very nervous about getting it. He told me I had to wait. By the time he came back with a decision, I was already 7 cm and about to just say "screw it" b/c his uncertainty made me nervous to get it. He tells me he called the head anesthesologist at HOME who informed him bleeding gums are very common during pregnancy and that it would be OK to give me the epi; so I took it.
I guess around 6am I started to feel like I had to push. The epi was wearing off and I decided NOT to top it off b/c the numbness was freaking me out and I thought I would push more effectively without it. OK, that line of thinking was BEFORE the urge to push got really bad. By about 7:40 I was 10 cm and ready to push. When I tried for the first push, I actually didnt think Id be able to do it; thats how much it hurt. Thank GOD, I only had to push for 10 mins. After like 2 or 3 pushes, they got the Dr and told me the next push, the baby would be out. I seriously thought they were messing with me to get me to keep pushing
But lo and behold at 7:54am, my beautiful daughter was born
Mia Marie 12/24/10 7:54am 7lbs 2 oz 19.5 inches
I tore a very little bit. My recovery was actually really good. I wouldnt have even known I tore if my Dr didnt tell me. Overall, it was a good experience and I wouldnt have wanted it any other way. If I have another baby, I would definitely like to be induced again and I would pray it goes as smoothly as this one did.

Beautiful baby! What a great story! I can't believe you only pushed for 10 minutes!!!! I pushed for an hour and 20 minutes! But I know it's my own fault because I kept not pushing because it hurt SO MUCH lol.
Our babies were the same weight at birth. But yours was an inch taller than ours.
Congratulations -- what a wonderful Christmas present!!!
