7 week old fussy while eating

A few days ago DS started getting really fussy while eating (he is bottle-fed) and cries and arches his back. He has also been having a BM at least 3 or 4 times a day since monday and before that he only had one a day. He is already on Zantac for reflux and he has been on Gentlease formula for several weeks. Any ideas on what this could be? I am going to get some mylicon drops thias afternoon to see if that helps.

Thanks!

It could be a milk allergy. Have him tested. Or it could be the Zantac dose needs to be adjusted or he needs a different reflux medication. I was in the same boat when my DS was a newborn...

Sounds like reflux. Consult your ped- maybe you need to change meds. Or it could be a milk allergy as PP said

I did this exact post when DS was 7 weeks, but he wasnt on zantac yet. I think it might have been gas with reflux combo.

Re: 7 week old fussy while eating

From ped. dietitian:

It could be 1 or both: Most babies until 12 weeks are very fussy/gassy due to having an immature gut - have difficulty with lactose load - so I would have recommended gentlease...which you are using. However, arching back is a big symptom of silent reflux. You can either try zantac or try switching to enfamil AR. AR has added rice starch that thickens in baby belly, not bottle. Nutrient profile is same as routine formula.
If you don't want to go med route, try ar. If you don't mind meds - stay w/genltease
