My awful story...
As some of you might remember, I had posted last week that my AFP levels came back elevated after two blood tests. On Tuesday, we went for an ultrasound. The perinatologist diagnosed our baby with having an encephalocele, which in our case was a mass protruding from the back of the baby's skull.

The picture in the link is similar to what our baby has. The perinatologist said that this was very bad and that we should terminate the pregnancy. However, I was not ready to give up. So, I got myself in to see a pediatric neurosurgeon and got a fetal MRI. The neurosurgeon said that there was hope, depending on whether there was brain tissue in the mass or not. If there wasn't, it may be possible that the baby could survive, although it would need major surgery right after being born.
Today, we got the results of the MRI and it was the worst possible news.  The encephalocele was primarily filled with brain tissue. Our child will not be able to survive. 
We found out that we were having another girl. Our daughter will joining our grandparents in heaven.
I now need to make the decision as to whether I want to have a D&E or be induced. I have no idea how to make this choice.
This has been the worst week of my life. I feel like I have been muddling my way through a fog. I have no idea how I am going to move on without my daughter. Thank you for reading. I wish each of you uneventful pregnancies and perfectly healthy babies. Be thankful and realize what a miracle and absolute blessing it is to have a healthy child.
I don't know why this is happening to us but I hope to find some peace in the future. Please pray for us.

I am so terribly sorry for you. I pray for your family and for strength for you all during this horrific time. No one should have to suffer like this. You will be in my thoughts ands prayers. God bless

oh my goodness....i am so so sorry. please FM me if you want to talk. i think you are further along than i was, but i went through something very similar in 2009. thinking of you and sending lots of prayers.
