Did anyone see Fauci on tv today saying schools should not open in the fall? This just depresses me so much. My son is starting kindergarten in the fall. Will his first introduction to real school with a new teacher and all new classmates be though a computer? I want to cry.

Re: Fauci

I don't think kids will be home in September, I truly don't. There is a point (and it's not too far off) where kids will fall too far behind to even play catch up. You also cannot very well hold back EVERY kid nationwide to makeup for this loss in education. Schools need to open, it is absolutely ESSENTIAL.

Also, if they even think of keeping schools closed they sure as sh!t better start refunding me a portion of my taxes for the education that I PAY for that my kids are NOT getting. Remote learning isn't even close to what kids get in a formal school structure. I appreciate all of the work teachers are doing but it cannot replace what they are missing out on by being home.

I think if they even tried to pull the closure crap in the fall this country is going to literally revolt and it'll be ugly. Like I said on the other thread, it's time to move forward. It's important at this point, this cannot go on forever.

Agree schools should open
If any teachers think they are high risk they should take some provision for alternate accommodations or half pay and leave or time off with unemployment ( I am not sure How anything works ) but it makes no sense to do this when kids are overall low risk

I have to look into this bc I missed the first half or so. Toward the end he was asked to clarify if he was in deed saying schools should not open until there's a vaccine and he said no, that's not what he thinks. So I have to see the earlier comments that I missed to get the full picture.

I really am starting to not like him.

Back in Jan and I believe Feb he said the US had nothing to worry about and here we are now... So I don’t think he can accurately predict September in May.

And unfortunately since the state is cutting so much school aid that even if the kids are home our taxes will probably ably go up.

My son is starting kindergarten too. This is off topic but I am having a tough time because at his cpse meeting the district said they would not classify him with an IEP, despite the OT strongly recommending he have it 2x week. I have an appointment with the developmental pediatrician in june which I have waited 9 months for, and now they are doing a virtual visit. I was hoping for some documentation from the ped to support him needing the services. I have no idea how they are going to make any type of assessment on skype. I hope I don't end up having to fight with school district during a pandemic.

If this happens, I will pay someone to tutor my son next year. I had a meltdown today trying to get him to literally write the letter e and f. He writes these letters all the time, but god forbid we do it when it’s the assigned work. It should take 2 minutes. 30 minutes later...

He told me I’m a bad teacher (meanwhile, I am an actual teacher who works with at risk HS students). I definitely had a “flat” day today. I can’t continue to do this in September.

From what I heard from one of my friends whose an administrator at a Long Island school, everything is up in the air. At her district in particular they are working out schedules of alternating days with a morning and afternoon sessions etc. she said it doesn’t sound like kids will be going back the way they were which she’s quite devastated about because it’s not a quality education. I’m hopeful that schools will return to normal. Schools are more then just school for some kids, they are the place where kids eat, get attention etc. I think they need to move quickly on a plan to rework how they will achieved this whether is be sanitizing nightly or modifying class sizes in some capacity (not even sure that’s possible just an idea) so that if they need to socially distance kids they can.
I’m worried that a mask will be required in school. My twins are going into preschool and my one child has a lot of sensory needs, I can barely get him dressed, no way will he wear a mask. I’ve been practicing with him but the last mask I gave him he ripped in half so it’s not going well at all

I may be in the minority here, but I really don't think school will be open in the fall or at least not full time. GOD HELP US ALL if that's the case. I really want schools to open, but I just have this feeling they won't open without some sort of restrictions.

This is what my teacher friends are saying too. If the kids do go back it's going to be half days or alternating days for elementary and HS seniors will continue the distance learning. :(

I also think masks will be recommended, but they cannot make in mandatory... especially for kids with sensory issues, etc.

The more I think about this the more I just want to run away....except there is nowhere to run. Kids NEED school, I'm sorry, they do. I just don't see what is going to change between now and September. I also think that IF camp can happen this summer (big IF at this point), it will be very telling as to what happens in September. If camp proceeds and the hospitalizations do not significantly increase, then it will be a good indicator that schools should be okay too.

Fauci is on a power trip as big as Cuomo. They live in their own little bubbles and I really just don't think they see, or care, about the big picture.

We’re moving to a district where we will be paying well over $20k in taxes FOR THE SCHOOLS.

I like and respect Fauci but he’s off his damn rocker if he thinks people won’t go bananas if school doesn’t open.

What’s the point of that? A few hours every other day is useless. They might as well not open at all.

I don't think King Cuomo and Prince Fauci care one tiny little iota that people won't be happy with it. In fact I think they get off on it.

I think schools are going to open and they can work around the social distancing somehow. I don't think they will be leaving the classroom for specials or lunch. They will be in the classroom for the day. The problem is going to be the bus. I don't know how they are going to get all the kids on the bus adhering to the rules as they are now. All I know is that both of my kids have special needs and have less than 8 kids in their class. They better be going back because it is almost criminal that they are not getting the services and support they need.

Right. $20k for school taxes when school will be only part time and I’ll have to pay for some kind of daycare for the other days.

I will gladly drive her if the bus is the issue. It's better than no school at all.

Cuomo definitely gets off on on his high horse, telling us no businesses can reopen and kids are unsafe in schools. He was given so much praise at the beginning of this pandemic, his head has become bloated. Notwithstanding, the ship sent to us, the Javits center and all those ventilators ended up not being needed.

If kids do end up going to school, I wonder how they’d enforce social distancing? I hear they might space the desks 6 feet apart but what about those classes that have 25+ students?? They’ll obviously need more classrooms, how will schools make that happen??

If camps open and we reopen and the curve stays relatively flat there is no reason not to open schools full time.

And if god forbid they don’t, then at least half the teachers (at least in elementary school where my kids attend) are now unnecessary. I want them laid off immediately. Maybe if they had to join the rest of us in fearing for our jobs they may be more willing to fight their unions to return to work.

Re: Fauci

Well Fauci clearly scared people. Los Angeles is extending house arrest for 3 more months and California State University is not holding Fall semester on any of its 23 campuses.

And its only mid May.

WTF is going on.
