I'd be happy driving her to and from school myself, if she can go to school full-time again, wearing a MASK (as that would actually make me feel she is safer), stay in the classroom during lunch and specials and have those teacher just push in instead and that they actually SANITIZE the classroom down nightly!!! This could happen if they tried. It wouldn't be anything too crazy. and just space the kids out more. Make sure they aren't running around holding hands and keeping the masks on. I don't know. They need at least a new normal like that. They can't be alone in the house learning from a computer 24/7.

ETA: Also for the people saying they want reduced taxes, what I expect from the school is actually ALL THE BOOKS and supplies she'd have access to in school if she needs to stay home. We weren't even sent anything she had at school... not a pencil or folder or notebook. Let alone teaching materials. I'd expect supplies. If not, I'd be mad.

Well Fauci clearly scared people. Los Angeles is extending house arrest for 3 more months and California State University is not holding Fall semester on any of its 23 campuses.

And its only mid May.

WTF is going on.

I was reading the same. I feel Cuomo and Newsom are having a pissing match! Supposedly he won’t be allowing ppl in the beach if they’re not doing an actual acitivity like swimming, running, etc. Meanwhile he’s considering letting restaurants offer outside seating for their customers?!? So much doesn’t make sense!

I’m so f ing done with all this. It’s all coming down to politics and money. None of it makes sense. I’m no longer scared or anxious, I’m angry! I don’t believe anything anyone says anymore. Just open the damn country. We lose people to many other things and we go on with our lives.

Flu in 2019. 32,000

Masks in school are beyond impractical, especially the younger they are. That cannot be a requirement for kids going back to school. It's more important they wash their hands constantly throughout the day then wear a mask.

My kids are 7 and 11, we were in Home Depot the other day and within 5 minutes they were complaining they couldn't breathe and my 7 yr old wouldn't stop touching his face and the mask. He took it it off multiple times. I'm severely claustrophobic and struggle with wearing the mask myself, how can we expect a child to wear a mask on the bus and for a 7 hr school day? It won't work and speaking as a former teacher, I can't imagine trying to teach all day and cast my voice across a classroom while wearing a mask.

Like everything else we're dealing with, masks in schools and in our everyday lives isn't sustainable.

There is no way I could wear a mask for that long. Much less a child.
It actually makes them touch their face more.
I can't imagine it's healthy either..breathing in your expelled carbon dioxide all day long.
Hence why people pass out wearing them

Healthcare workers wear masks all day.

I don’t know, if my options are school with mask or no school, I’m voting mask.

First, healthcare workers are ADULTS, not CHILDREN.

Secondly, even healthcare workers, doctors and nurses don't normally wear a mask for hours straight. These are children, how do you expect a Kindergarten baby or a 1st or 2nd grader to comply for HOURS straight? It's ridiculous.

Godspeed to the teachers who would have to enforce this nonsense. I taught elementary school, kids frequently grabbed the wrong coat, mitten, hat and thought nothing of it. Trust me when I tell you, you will have kids grabbing the wrong masks and wearing whatever is closest to them and that would cause more harm then good.

It won't work.

You can’t compare healthcare workers to children. And before this pandemic, they didn’t keep the mask on all the time. Even healthcare workers have said how painful and hard it is wearing masks all day.

I know it’s hard for me as an adult. But I think it will be hard for kids to follow this for 7hrs straight.

My son is 11 (ADD) and I know he will be a pain in the @ss. But this doesn’t concern me, I’m more worried about the lack of oxygen and kids passing out or getting light headed from wearing masks for long periods of time.

You can mandate masks to the moon and back but the reality is that kids are not wearing masks all day long at school. The end.

The more I think about this the more I just want to run away....except there is nowhere to run. Kids NEED school, I'm sorry, they do. I just don't see what is going to change between now and September. I also think that IF camp can happen this summer (big IF at this point), it will be very telling as to what happens in September. If camp proceeds and the hospitalizations do not significantly increase, then it will be a good indicator that schools should be okay too.

Fauci is on a power trip as big as Cuomo. They live in their own little bubbles and I really just don't think they see, or care, about the big picture.

If camps open and we reopen and the curve stays relatively flat there is no reason not to open schools full time.

And if god forbid they don’t, then at least half the teachers (at least in elementary school where my kids attend) are now unnecessary. I want them laid off immediately. Maybe if they had to join the rest of us in fearing for our jobs they may be more willing to fight their unions to return to work.

And somehow this gets turned into being the fault of teachers - that didn't take long

Ok then. Don't put masks on the kids. I need my kid in school. Mask, no mask, hazmat suit, whatever the rules are, I'll follow them.

Agreed. Kids can't be required to wear masks. I had the girls out for 10 minutes today to pick some thing up from my older daughter's school and I had to keep reminding the younger one to breathe. Then when we took it off the whole inside was wet like she was sucking on it or something. That was after 10 minutes. And your right, teachers will just be worrying about masks all day instead of teaching. I'm sure they don't want that either.

If you don't think camps or schools can open what do you think is the best way to ensure children are properly cared for and educated when their parents return to work?

I haven't been a huge Cuomo fan lately, but I really pose this question to the teachers. I want to know what they feel an appropriate alternative is.

I'm not asking to incite anyone or rant about teachers, I honestly want to know what they feel is the best solution.

That is why I said I truly believe there are some people...not Cuomo in particular...just average citizens...that think schools should stay closed and we should stay home from work like this for much longer.
That's their solution...to stay like this until sometime nexr year..schools closed, offices closed, etc
