A dog is pooping and peeing on your lawn [Poll]

How do you feel about it?

I witnessed someone allowing their dog to poop on my lawn and they looked around, turning to walk away, when they saw me watching them. Only then did they pick it up and walk away with it.

I think about this when I walk my dog. I always clean up after him. But people have such NICE lawns, I'm thinking about carrying around a spray bottle with water for the pee spots, so it doesn't burn the grass.

Overkill? Do people just not care about this?

i wouldnt go crazy with the spray or worry about the lawns... it happens.. JMO..

i remember one time i forgot to bring a bag.. .i had to run all the way home while DH stayed with the poop and the dog.. i would never let the dog do that and leave it.

I would say something. I always bring 2 biobags when I walk Teemu, and still I don't let him do his business on people's yards (I have him do it in the bit of grass that is not owned by anyone).

I just feel that picking up poo isn't that hard, so they need to suck it up and not be so lazy!

I get really annoyed when the owner does not pick it up but if they do, I don't mind. S*it happens. Chat Icon

I do hate when people let their cats run loose though. I have had to replace hundreds of dollars worth of bushes b/c of cats using them as a litter box. The stench becomes totally unbearable. THAT makes me crazy.

ITA! I can't stand when cats do their business in my flowers, mulch, etc. Since I pick up after my dog, should I knock on your door and tell you to come pick up your cat's cr*p. It leaves a foul odor. Just because you choose to let your cat outside doesn't mean I should have to let my house become its litterbox.

Re: A dog is pooping and peeing on your lawn [Poll]

I know that my neighbor's dog pisses on my mom's front lawn. He lets the dog roam and there are always brown spots on our lawn. It drives me up the wall. It's SO inconsiderate.

I would NEVER, EVER, EVER allow my dog to go to the bathroom on someone elses lawn. What if it was mushy poop?

Re: A dog is pooping and peeing on your lawn [Poll]

this is why people are supposed to curb their dog. The dog is not suposed to go on people's lawns. If it has to go on grass it can do it on it's own lawn like my doggie does.
And the cat thing don't get me started. I think cats should have to have leashes or be hooked up to the invisible fences. I hate them peeing and pooping where ever they please. And worse I hate when they get run over. It wouldn't of happened if they were on a leash or in their yard.

As long as the owner picks up the poop. I have no issues. My dog pees on grass and that is fine by me and I pick up after her.

90% of the people in m areas have manicured lawns by landscapers, so they have no burn spots, no matter what!

See, I'm confused about that sign as well. We have curbs in my neighborhood but no sidewalks and so we lack that strip of grass closest to the curb.

In a quick google search, I've gotten lots of different answers. I don't think it means "don't poop here at all", I think it means "poop near the sidewalk".

My dog has just started to learn to poop on our property (we've only had him a week) but that's not going to stop me from walking him.

I actually try to bring him to empty lots but there's poison ivy and broken glass there. Chat Icon

People should just pick up after there dog.. I have that curb grass between the sidewalk and the property.. If I didn't I would let her poop on the grass closest to the curb and them pick it up.. people cant get mad if there is no side walk grass in between there property.. Its just expected I would think!! I would freak if someone let there dog poop on my lawn and not pick it up.. That is beyond disrespectful.

Re: A dog is pooping and peeing on your lawn [Poll]

Unfortunately, this really, really irks me...to the point of rage. I don't know why because I'm an advocate for sharing space and being neighborly, etc... But there's something about children playing and dogs sh*tting in my yard that annoys me to no end. I don't even have a nice lawn so I don't know why I care!!!! When I walk my dog, I would never allow her to go on someone's property, not even for a second.

I don't let my dog poop on anyone's grass - street only! And I don't let him even go on the street in front of someone's driveway. I know I'm a freak about cleanliness, but I think it's easier to clean up from the street and I wouldn't want to walk/drive through poop and then deal with the smell. And I don't want to worry about brown spots on other's lawn. Of course, I'm lucky and live in a relatively quiet neighborhood, so we can walk in the street safely.

As far as curbing your dog. To me that means in the street.

Me too.

As a non-dog owner, it would annoy me. As for the strip of grass on the other side of the sidewalk, although that isn't owned by the home owner, I believe home owners are required to care for it, so if I was paying my landscaper to care for it, or spending my weekends taking care of it, I'd be just as annoyed if there were burnt spots from dog pee on that section.

Re: A dog is pooping and peeing on your lawn [Poll]

I have a little poop-bag holder that is attached to Misty's leash. I ALWAYS pick up her poop - no matter where we are. I think it's incredibly rude when people don't pick up after their dog.

As far as them going in the street - some dogs just won't do it. Misty will only go on grass...I've walked three miles with her holding it one night in Brooklyn until I finally got to Prospect Park and she was able to go on grass.

curb your dog means your dog is going in the street, not on anyone's lawn. IMO that's very disrespectful, even if you pick it up after. My dog is 14, I've never had her go on anyone's property

Re: A dog is pooping and peeing on your lawn [Poll]

It annoys the heck out of me! There is no reason why someone elses dog needs to use my lawn as his bathroom. Most of the time when you see owners walking their dogs, they have no bag with them Chat Icon

Cats, Chat Icon they are another story!!! We have a horrible problem with them using our lawn & flower beds as a liter box! I can't stand it but no matter what I try to deter them, it doesn't work. Anyone know anything???

My dog doesn't like walks more than 2 blocks, so I don't have to deal with curbing, but I have no problem with dogs going on the lawn as long as it's cleaned up.

as for cats...I welcome the neighborhood cats...I would rather have them dig up a few things than have mice in my house

I did some research on the internet and I found an article on a humane society website that said sprinkling chili powder around your property deters cats...I guess they don't like the smell of it. So I tried it. I sprinkled it around the perimeter of my yard, by the garbage cans and in the new bushes and gardens and it seemed to work.

My theory is I don't let my kids poop and pee on your lawn, so don't let your animals do it on mine Chat Icon
