A few ? re 3 year old preschool and potty training
Is it safe to assume most 3 year olds cannot pull their pants down or up (or pull up or underear)? What about wiping their tushies?
Just not sure if I need to specify this with DDS preschool or is it a given that a 3 year old cannot pull their pull or underwear and pants down and up? And that when it comes to #2, they would need help with wiping?
Or would the teachers and aides automatically assist the child with these things b/c they arent thiings most or many 3 y o can do?

I'd like to know as well.
DS can't simply pull down his underwear; he will either ask for help or take it entirely off and then can't put them back on.
He also doesn't toushie-wipe himself.

Re: A few ? re 3 year old preschool and potty training
In my DD's preschool they needed to be ENTIRELY independent with toileting themselves.
Including pulling up their unders/pants, wiping themselves, and washing their hands afterwards.
I think for safety and liability reasons, teachers are not allowed to touch the children in these ways.
Before school started with my DD I had her practicing for several weeks, telling her that she needed to show me that she was able to do it on her own. She was fine for #1...and for #2...well, she just waited until she was home to do that. Preschool was only 2.5 hours.
I also babysit for a girl who will be 3 later this month and she started school today. We've been practicing at my house for 2 weeks to make sure that she was ready.
I think it is fairly safe to say that the kids will pick it up pretty quickly!.

My DD is starting 3 yo preschool tomorrow. She needs to be able to use the bathroom herself. The teachers are not allowed by law to assist students with going to the bathroom. They told us to make sure she is wearign something that she can pull up and down herself. My DD can wipe herself. I usually wipe poop but hopefully won't occur while at school. Its only 2.5 hrs.

Wow. Ok. My preschool is very different. Its only a preschool but they are also daycare licensed I believe. And they will help them do all of that. They even told me they would change her diapers if she wasnt trained, and training isnt required for them to attend.
So I am not sure what they are doing. I guess I will have to ask or tell them she will need help!

My kids went to a preschool, that was not a daycare, and they had to be fully capable of using the bathroom completely by themselves. The teachers wouldn't even go in the bathroom with them, they waited outside.
It's a totally different thing if it's also a licensed daycare.

As far as the other kids go - it was a mix - some could do everything you asked, some could do nothing...
.
What do you think they did for the other kids? Any clue?

Re: A few ? re 3 year old preschool and potty training
My DS just turned 3 yesterday. He has been potty trained since about 2.5 and has been putting on and off underwear/pants for about that time. Sometimes he doesn't always put it on the right way, but he still puts it on independently. He tries to wipe himself. I still do it for him b/c he doesn't understand about getting it clean, but he likes to do it himself too!

Re: A few ? re 3 year old preschool and potty training
Our kids go to a daycare/preschool so they are totally willing to try in train our son. He's 3 and somewhat spotty with this whole potty training business. They are willing to do the send-him-with-20-pairs-of-undies, coax, wipe, change, pull up, push down, etc, etc, etc...
I wish them luck!

Re: A few ? re 3 year old preschool and potty training
MY ds goes to a preschool only. He hasnt done #2 so I am not sure their policy on this, But he told me that his teacher helped him with his pants when he went potty. He can pull them up himself, but they are a rolled up mess, so he needs help.
My niece was like 5 prior to wiping her tushie by herself and she went to nursery starting at 2, I would assume that the teachers were able to hep
