A friend of ours just lost their baby...
I think she was around 4 months pregnant. I feel so bad for her. How common is it to have a miscarriage...it seems to be pretty common...

I'm so sorry for them!!
Miscarriage, unfortunately, is VERY common. Especially in women over 25.
Even my sister, who's "super fertile" miscarried her 3rd pregnancy...she was 31. And when discussing it with my family, it seems that most of my aunts/cousins had also lost babies when preggo after 25.

Re: A friend of ours just lost their baby...
OMG this just happened to my cousin Friday night...she was 4.5 months and actually delivered the baby-moving and all, she saw him and can describe him. It is so sad, my whole family is devastated and very worried about her
Sorry for your friends loss
ETA- i read 20-30% of pregnancies result on misscarriage. Her dr told her same 1 in 5

Soo sorry for your friend That's just awful
M/c's are very common, i was told 1 in 4-5 pregnancy's in m/c and AGE does not matter. Anyone can have a m/c whether you are 21 years old or 40, our bodies just "know" when something isn't right.
Having had a m/c myself, it's hard, i cannot even fathom going through one at 4 months. My heart breaks, and goes to your friend and their family for their devasting loss.

This is so sad. I'm so sorry for them. I just wanted to add that, while first-trimester miscarriage is fairly common, second-trimester miscarriage is much more rare.

Yes, I have heard that once you get past your first trimester, the risk of miscarriage decreases significantly
One more week of my first trimester

Wow, I was told that the chance increases after 25, I guess that's wrong.
Maybe the chance of a later term mc increases since you can have a chemical PG and not know it.
Anyway, it's sucks either way.
So sorry for your friend and for those that suffer through a MC!

Re: A friend of ours just lost their baby...
Unfortunately miscarriage is very common. It is heartbreaking to watch someone go through it (thank God I never had one).
My mom miscarried when she was almost 6 months preggo. She went to the bathroom and the baby was there. My dad had to take it from her and wrap it up and they went to the hospital. I remember that day and it was so sad to see my mom and dad crying like they were.

I have a question...(maybe a dumb question)...is a MC physically painful??

Im sorry for your friends loss.
I think that is the scariest part of a pregnancy...a part of me that is nervous about it already.

Re: A friend of ours just lost their baby...
Unfortunately miscarriage is more common than any of us realize. Even at a later stage (past the 'safe' 12 week point) it does happen -- though more uncommon -- and that makes it all the more scary to think about when you do become pregnant. I think sometimes we don't think about this topic until we also are TTC, or it hits home when you hear a personal story about someone's loss. I know I was never aware of how many ladies go through it until I started TTC -- and then when I also lost a pregnancy at 13 weeks, I realized how much I had in 'common' with so many other ladies.. something I wish I never had to share with ANYONE else
I am very sorry for your friends' loss It's so so hard to deal with

I have a question...(maybe a dumb question)...is a MC physically painful??
sorry to hear about your friends mc.
i had a mc at 7 weeks. it felt like a bad period with VERY painful cramps...the days leading to it i had some lower back pain so i knew something was wrong, but nothing too extreme. i passed it naturally so i didnt require a d&c - i heard that is very painful and uncomfortable!
in the first trimester its called a mc...after that i think its called a stillbirth - im sure that must be so much more tramatic and i would assume more painful (physically)...
regarding the age thing - i was only 25 at the time so i dont know how much of a difference that really makes. once you go through it, you realize how common it is...at any age!!
