A glimmer of hope for next year
Obama may do a second stimulus to help avoid teacher layoffs.
I have been checking a great website, gothamschools.org. It gives daily updates for layoffs etc.
Keep positive!!!!

With all the auto buyouts, banks buyouts and stimulus...I really truly hope our President DOES do an EDUCATION buyout....

My sister just got cut today. I've been a mess all evening. I pray to God this turns around for her. She's a better teacher than I

Re: A glimmer of hope for next year
how about these big banks, who were bailed out and now making huge profits, give back and fund this stimulus?
Can they act like true capitalists and take a lesson from Andrew Carnegie?

Re: A glimmer of hope for next year
the problem with this is, at least for LI public school teachers, is that once a budget has been drafted, approved, and voted on, I don't think you can add to it or reduce it-other than through retirements. Patterson said today that he is going to release the school aid, and even if he does that, it does nothing for us for next year-the money will simply be put into reserves. So, while it may be a good thing for the future, I'm not sure that this will do anything to avoid/bring back teachers who were laid off.

The NY Assemblyman, Jonathan Bing, who wrote the bill to end seniority rights in NYC, is also getting a lot of $$ from hedge fund millionaires.

And all those commercials that are on the air now, with the "concerned parents" talking in very NY accents about how teachers' unions are ruining our schools and taking $700 million of federal funds out of the hands of our poor children... those are paid for by those hedge fund people. Creepy stuff, really designed to outright deceive parents.
